1st - Jerry Sloan. 2nd - The fact that they were at the top of the standings last season before AK injury. 3rd - AK. One of the few guys in the NBA that are game changers and still 24. 4th - Boozer and Okur playing much better this season after one season under Jerry. 5th - The fact that nothing happens in UTAH to distract players. 6th - Deron Williams. I know almost nothing about this guy but I have a feeling he is good. This is where I can be most wrong though.

Utah will probably be a great team in 2-3 years with Deron/AK/Boozer core but I still don't see them making the playoffs this year

I hate him for the Cavs thing. He is the only NBA player I wish for a run of bad luck until the end of his career and his defense is VERY questionable but that doesn't change the fact that he will still help the Jazz.

I would too, but then he'd be getting paid for sitting on his ass. I just hope that the Jazz finish at the bottom of the west for as long as he is around

#1. Spurs (champs and got stronger)
#2. Denver (a sleeper pick by me, but I love this team if Karl can continue to work his magic. Awesome starting 5, they all have their roles, and a great bench in Boykins and Nene, as well as adding Earl Watson to the mix, I really like Denver)
#3. Sacramento (because of the standings thing, they're in by default really, but their the best team out of that division especially adding even more offense in Rahim)
#4. Rockets (if they live up to their potential, no way they shouldn't finish behind SA barely)
#5. Phoenix (with Amare being out 4 months, thats a huge blow, and with all the team changes this team underwent this offseason I have a lot of questions about their chemistry)
#6. Dallas (kept the same team together this offseason except for Finley, added Christie and a few no-names to their roster, hopefully the one offseason where Dallas didn't make any big moves help their drive in the playoffs)
#7. Utah (they were on fire before AK and Booze got hurt, and adding Devin Brown and Deron Williams will only help their firepower. They could very well move up if they manage to stay healthy, this is a very deep Jazz team and Sloan is one of the best coaches in the league)
#8. L.A Clippers (yep, another surprise. I think the Clips have a great shot to beat out the Lakers this season for the 8th seed. They quietly added Mobley and Cassell, and with their young guns like Maggette, Livingston, Brand, and Kaman still growing, if they can all stay healthy, Clips will be in great shape)
Possible contenders for the last spot:
#9. Golden State (looked awesome near the end of last season, but they really need a center, but I think their backcourt of Davis, JRich, and Dunleavy can truly be lethal if they perform to their potential, but I think the curse on this team will last atleast another year)
#10. Lakers (who's their PG? Smush Parker? With Kobe and Phil's relationship still having unanswered questions and Andrew Bynum's role on this squad undetermined, as well as the West being so deep, Lakers will miss the cut)

is the east that bad? i think the east's getting stronger and stronger each year, and i dont really get how this power shifted big time from east's Pacers, Knicks, Bulls, Pistons, Hornets era to Lakers, Spurs, Suns, Houston thing

i guess all the weak west team got their good young guy and built upward while the east got old and died....i think the power shift's gonna happen again maybe back to the east in about 3 to 4 years or so with Hawks, Bobcats, Magic, Cleveland kinda team heading up

of course...the power is always changing.
Strong teams get eventually weak, and weak teams get eventually stronger.
