This Lakers team is perfectly constructed now. Though Gasol insn't a beast as far as strength goes, he is a consistent scorer. Now Lamar who doesn't seem comfortable as a second option, slides to the third option. So we now have a great big 3 that could be comparable to Celtics big 3. Kobe is the best guard in the league, and Lamar is one of the most versitale forwards in this league. Gasol is a scorer, who can make a difference defensively in the post. Not in post defense as much as just changing shots. The lakers are a defensive team, and i think Gasol will pickup the defensive attitude as Pierce and Ray have done in Boston. Saying all that, I still haven't mentioned Bynum or the other core players. And don't be surprised to see the Lakers make another big move before the deadline. And don't be surprised if Jason Kidd gains more interest in joining the Lakers.

Definitely puts the Lakers as a top contender in the West, it won't matter though once Dallas gets Kidd.

Great move for the Lakers. When I heard it, I thought for sure Odom would be going the other way. And they didn't even have to give up Farmar or anyone else key to do it.

The lakers are a defensive team, and i think Gasol will pickup the defensive attitude as Pierce and Ray have done in Boston. Everything you said was spot-on except this little nugget. Pau knows no defense. He doesn't change shots. He ignores them. That said, I love this trade for the Lakers. It's a perfect fit for them, and Pau will fit in nicely in the triangle offense. When Bynum comes back, if he's right, this team is right up there with the Spurs, Mavs and I think past the Suns now.

and we didn't even make the lakers take cardinal in the deal. I like the trade for the Grizzlies EXCEPT this part not happening. They couldn't get the Lakers to add Walton for Cardinal and a second (that looks like it may be top 3 in the second round)? I hope they at least tried. Walton would remind everyone here of Battier, whom no one here has forgotten or stopped drooling over.

and we didn't even make the lakers take cardinal in the deal. I hope they at least tried. I'm sure they didn't. I've lost faith in the Grizz office. Heisley is just trying to cut cap to sell the team. Not only did we trade Gasol without getting anything valuable in return, but they also turned around and traded Swift for Jason Collins. By no means is Swift a great player, but Collins is arguably the worst offensive big in the league. His scoring and rebounding have become a joke. If not for his great defense he wouldn't be in the league. The two firsts we got have little value unless Kobe breaks both legs during those draft years. Cap space will do jack shit for us since no one will sign with us unless they're a marginal player being overpaid. Crittenton could be decent down the line, but do we even need him? We have Conley and Lowry. People love or hate Lowry, but everyone that hates on him keeps forgetting this is essentially his rookie season. If they decide to play Crittenton at the SG spot that takes away the one advantage he has in the league: being a 6'5 PG. I was pretty happy this offseason. Eventhough the season was disappointing I still felt we had a future. This trade just took whatever hope there was and threw it out the door. Add this to releasing Alexander Johnson and Tarence Kinsey for no reason, signing players to 10 day contracts just to release them and you have to wonder if anyone knows what the hell they're doing. Not to mention we gave up a 1st for Navarro and just traded the reason he wanted to be a Grizz in the first place. If he doesn't resign that pick will probably turn into Otis Thorpe 2.0

Enough with the sugercoating. What do you REALLY think?
Well, you can still hope they turn Lowry or Critt into a lotto or another young player at a different position. Not to mention the strong possibility now of another top 5 pick, where you could get Beasley or DeAndre Jordan or Kevin Love.
As for FA, they will have to overpay someone like DeSagana Diop. Or you can hope that Shawn Marion absolutely LOVES Iavaroni and wants to play for him here. Then there's always Ron Artest.

CBS Sportsline said that the Lakers are still trying to get Jason Kidd.

that would make the two firsts we get the equivalent of more expensive second round picks

Lakers win this deal, Memphis Office is a joke, and the laker are Contenders... Ok, so what would LA have to give up to get Kidd? Lamar im sure... a pick? anotehr Javar type player? not really sure what to think about the kidd thing? if they give up kidd w/o giving up Lamar, Bynum, Gasol, Kobe, then im good. That would mean a starting 5 of Kidd, Kobe, Lamar, Gasol, Bynum, now someone tell me that they wouldn't be championship front runners...

As a Laker fan, I'd pass on that. The PG for the Lakers triangle offense needs to be able to hit open threes. Kidd may be awesome at every other aspect of the game, but his outside shot is subpar.

and we didn't even make the lakers take cardinal in the deal. i would have liked 2 additions to the trade... 1.) make McKie's sign/trade worth more and make them take back BC 2.) include Turiaf
