LOL Mavs forward George blocks trade of Kidd to Mavs With the New Jersey Nets poised to complete a blockbuster deal to send Jason Kidd back to Dallas on Wednesday night, Mavericks reserve forward Devean George has unexpectedly exercised his right to block the trade, according to NBA front-office sources. Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the teams verbally agreed to the deal earlier Wednesday and were preparing to submit the trade for league approval when George informed the Mavericks that he wouldn't consent to being included in the deal, which is his right based on a rare provision in his one-year contract. sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3244818I thought the Mavs overpaid but this shit is hilarious anyway

I never understood why athletes veto trades. Why do you want to somewhere you're not wanted?

because you build your life in those cities and don't want to be uprooted from your home. also I'm sure George feels like he wants to be a part of something special at the end of his career, not part of a rebuilding process. I really don't think his teammates are mad at him, because I'm sure many would do the same at that late stage of their career. the real question is who the fuck gave deavan george a no trade clause is his contract?

So the reason he vetoed the deal is because he will lose his Larry Bird rights after this season and won't make any real money if he oks the deal. noway he vetoes the deal unless Cuban throws about 10 million his way. and a year and half is enough time to build your life somewhere if you enjoy the state. I'm not positive, but I could of swore George was a downsouth boy anyways

George is a midwest boy born and raised in Minnestota.....Also why would you want to go to dirty, smelly and depressing New Jersey..........Also Cuban can't give George cash more than what his contract is worth and right now I think george is only making like 3 mill this season and his bird rights are worth more than that so I would veto the deal if i was him also..........Plus D.George just wants to help the Lakers out.................

George is able to veto the deal because he's on a one-year contract and would lose his "Early Bird" rights which allow teams to go over the salary cap to sign him. So he's vetoing just to get more money. But he'll change his mind once he gets some money to shut up and a guarentee from the Nets that he'll get playing time. I'm sure he doesn't want to be booed and hated on in every game until the end of the season. His 0-11 performance already shows it got into his head.
Here' what I recently read:
"We didn't intend for this to be a line in the sand," Mark Bartelstein said by phone. "They (the Mavericks) brought this to us just before the game and I didn't think there was enough time to discuss it."

The Mavs knew what they were getting into when they gave him that contract. Especially if he has kids, it's a pain in the ass to uproot and move your entire family in the middle of the year. My employer moved me from Florida to NC withint he past year...if I could have a "no trade" clause in my contract I'd use it in a heartbeat to stop from going to New Jersey.
That said, if all he wants is more money it's a shame.

let me get this straight...
cuban let's Nash walk b/c he thinks Devin Harris is the real deal...
then cuban decides devin harris isn't the real deal and (tries to) trade him for Kidd....
uh....Nash >>>>> Kidd
had they just stuck with nash, all would be great and the mavs would probably have 2 titles right now......
