For anyone who is thinking about joining SLOC, I say you should! Why should I join SLOC?The league and game doesn't take up a lot of time to export files to the commish who runs the league. However, I would say, with few reservations, that it's a far better and more detailed game than STB or FBB. ALL ratings are on HTML, there is nothing that's scouted, and gameplanning can be as detailed as you want it, which is also more in depth than STB and FBB. Not to mention recruiting which is fantastic in the game. Can I get the school that I want?I'm sure you can. There are only a few human coaches right now and 327 college teams in the game. The truly elite teams in SLOC aren't immediately available - you need to earn your way up into those jobs, but you can start ant any team with a 75 prestige or less. If you're curious, PM stevegamer, the current commish, and check out the links above - the "C" Basketball icon takes you to the home page. Ok, ok, you've convinced me. How do I get the game? It's easy to buy the game used for SLOC - Fast Break College Basketball (FBCB). Just go to this website: www.fbbgames.com/fbcb/dl.htmYou can try a 3 day trial and see if you like it. If you don't, no sweat, but I bet you probably will if you like basketball at all. I never watch college basketball personally, and I am addicted. Such a great game, and more human controlled schools make the league more fun and active, so sign up now! At least ask an SLO commissioner for SLOC forum access to see what the league is like, and what the activity is like. ask "grizzteam41", "sativa417" or the commissioner in your league. [ Another note: Stay informed on what's happening in SLOC!You can always see what's happening, if not in the forums, in the league by clicking on the "C" square up on the very top of the forum - in the center of the five letters. Or, you can go to this website: www.simleagueone.com/www/sloc.htmthe letter "C" up top will bring you to the same place. The game can be bought for $9.95 from the following website: www.fbbgames.com/fbcb/index.htm

If you are looking for team in SLOC, pelase PM me. We're nearing conference tourney time, and it's a great time to take a look around, and see what's great about FBCB.
Any questions, PM me, but John lays it out very well up above.
Another thing to note:
In SLOC, which is a FBCB league, you play the role of a coach. Things that make this different than most sim leagues, which make it more interesting/challenging:
1. You have a persona in the game, which grows over time. You will set yourself up with certian strengths and your in-game stats can improve over the seasons.
2. You aren't tied to a program. This means you can move up to a more prestigious job, or to your alma mater. You can also get fired by the game if you are really below expectations. AD's descriptions range from "stuff of legends" to "fired".
3. You can effect the prestige of the program, and to an extent the league. Teams & leagues have prestige. Team prestige runs from 1-100. League ratings go from 1-5. It is possible for both to change over time in FBCB.

All New College Members must PM this information to stevegamer to begin:
On these personal stats, I DO NOT recommend using your own personal information.
The name will be your forum name (no exceptions) Age (minimum age is 30) High School City State/Country College (Not the college you claimed, your coach's alma mater).
Divide 240 pts into:
Recruiting ability: Scouting Ability: Coach Offense: Coach Defense:
No more than 100 pts for any one ability, max. No ZERO point values.
How do those coaching abilities work?
Like this: Recruiting is your ability to recruit high schoolers to your school. Your recruiting Coordinator (part of your staff) also does this. Scouting is to evaluate recruits and players. Your Lead Scout (part of your staff) also does this. Coach Offense is your ability to coach and also your ability to teach offense. Your Assistant coach also does this (part of your staff) Coach Defense - same as Coach Offense.
You have 240 points of ability to divide amoung those 4 abilities, and you cannot go over. Your staff will help in these areas, but your staff is not like in the Pro game. You hire for one year and the staff may move on the next year. If the are extremely good, they may become head coaches elsewhere.
Example:
Head Coach Mojo Jojo divides his 240 points like this:
Recruit: 45 Scout: 45 Coach Offense: 75 Coach Defense: 75
In this example, I would have to hire good Recruiting and Scouting Staff.
A more risky gamble would look like this:
Recruit: 20 Scout:20 Coach Offense 100 Coach Defense 100
This would mean I am heavily relying on having high quality staff for scouting and recruiting
The opposite is this:
Recruit 100 Scout 100 Coach offense 20 Coach Defense 20
This combination means I am gambling that I will be outstanding at evaluating and recruiting, but not as good of a coach.

sims about every 3 days I think.....so like 2 or 3 sims a week......
i'm not sure of the exact duration, but I think a whole season takes a few months.....
it's fun....
it's less interaction on the board with other gm's, but everyone having the game on their own computer to upload the file to and set the DC and do recruiting on is fun and different than the FBB variations of slox, slop, and slor....

We sim Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday. The season lasts a few months in real-life and simulates the entire college coaching experience from choosing between job offers, building a staff, recruiting, and coaching/game strategy. So while the college basketball season only runs into early April, the game has off-season sim periods where schools will offer you jobs, and staff members may leave. You might even get fired if you suck, so don't suck. Any team with 75 or less prestige without a human coach is available as a starting job!To find a team's prestige - go the SLOC main page: s335002247.onlinehome.us/sloc/index.htmSelect "Standings", then a team. Prestige will show up one the first "Team Performance" line. Sample team page: s335002247.onlinehome.us/sloc/rosters/roster105.htm

Someone asked me for more info on the league, and I thought I'd post what I sent him out here so others could see it.
Basically, I sim 3 times a week - Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday nights. During the regular season that covers a week of games, generating new polls. During the postseason (Conference, NIT, NCAA Tourneys) I sim a round or two at a time. During preseason, that generally covers a month of time during which you are hiring assistants, looking at potential job offers, scheduling, accept holiday/pre-season tourney bids, recruiting, etc. Recruiting is run at the end of every month once the recruiting period opens.
You, as a coach, do the following:
Hire & fire staff. They can leave without you firing them as well. Ask the AD for stuff: more time to meet the goal you've been given, more money in the budget, improved facilities Scout & recruit players, by visiting & offering scholarships. Handle redshirting & training time allocation - including academics. Depth charts, and offensive & defensive strategies. Choose to move on to a new school or not.
It's very different from the pro sims, as there are no contracts, but you get guys for 4 (or less) years.
You also have more options in coaching strategy, instead of a DC 3 deep at each spot, you select what positions every guy on the roster can sub in at, and playing time. You can have a deep or short rotation. You will select a defense, with general philosophies to go with it, and some offensive parameters as well.

We are starting up a new season. Lots of openings, and I am tweaking the conference alignments to remove the independents which should speed up the tedious coach recruiting period a bit. PM me for details.

We of course still have openings. There aren't 327 people on the board, let alone in SLOC.
