Erbes, even if they do lose to the Czechs or Finland there in a medal game...so really all they have to do to guarantee a medal games it to beat Swiss/Belarus... Yeah I know that, but I was more saying that getting a medal is going to be tough. Even if they are in the bronze medal game they have to play (presumably) Sweden, Russia, or Canada. That's no guarantee for a medal. I think they got very luck with the Fins on their side of the draw as they are probably the easiest beat out of the big 5.

USA could have not asked for a better draw. To only beat Swiss/Belarus then Finland/Czechs (don't underestimate them either) to guarantee a medal is as good as it gets...Sweden/Russia/Canada fighting for 1 spot in the Gold Medal game is a thing of beauty for the USA team.

PS... If you guys watched freestyle skiing yesterday you might have seen Matt Depeters. I went to high school with him and he was on the dive team while I was on the swim team. This kid was nuts on a diving board and I think he proved he's pretty nuts on the hills as well. He finished 17th, only 5 places out of qualifying at age 22, pretty impressive. He landed both of his jumps and the only reason he didn't score higher was because of his lack of degree of difficulty. Look for him in 2014 in Russia!

I'm not expecting a blowout.

I'm not expecting a blowout. It's like we are on the same brain wave. I think it's going to be as tight as a virgin. Maybe 2-1? Jonas Hiller is pretty sick - see taking over the starting job from JS Giguere! Plus I have seen Switzerland play the most this tourney (weird I know) and they aren't pushovers by any stretch of the imagination. Yeah I know the US beat them in qualifying but this is a whole new game now. Elimination brings out the crazy in people!

Yeah, I'm going to miss the game, too...but really? I know they play anyone tough, but I'd be shocked if they put more than 1 goal on Ryan Miller. And the SWISS are playing on back to back days which makes me think that it will be a comfortable win like the last game.

That's comfortable because the SWISS would never put up 3 goals in 1 period against R. Miller...bottom line.

None of the teams on our half of the brackets have high powered offenses. The top 3 scoring teams are Russia Canada and Sweden which should favor the americans who will need Ryan Miller to play like a veniza goalie. Finland and the Czechs can score but the Americans can score just as well.
How about Phill Kessel getting benched in the 3rd period vs canada. The best pure goal scorer on the US team gets the pine in the 3rd. Coach Ron Wilson who coached the USA team that won the world cup in 96 (i think) told Kessel that he benched Hall of Famers in that tourament and they were happy to sit for the team.
And how about Erik Johnson? him playing in Stl i dont get to see him much. But wow I can see why he was a 1st overall pick a few years back. Johnson has some skills and will be anchoring our blue line for years to come.

Russia vs Canada tonight promises to be one of the best game of the tourament. Everyone is hyping the Ovechkin Crosby match up but i dont think they will be on the ice at the same time much. Anyone who follows the league knows that Ovechkin has the most problems with matching up vs Mike Richards (and they have a history of some battles) I would expect to have canada match up Richards vs the OV Malkin Semin line and if Canada can keep them off the score sheet i would expect canada to move on in the tournament.

Good points Ferg...Kessel was non-existent during that game as well. Erik Johnson somehow is a + with the Blues so yeah, he's pretty damn good.
Toews (is a +7!)/Richards/Morrow or Bergeron should take on that line. I heard Babcock might go with the Getzlaf line to take on Ovie's line though.
