No doubt its worked well, but our team is very physical. Its not like playing the Nets or something.
I think the game was terribly over reffed, and on both sides. For a stretch of the 3rd I think the Spurs went to the line on like 8 straight possessions or something. It was crazy, were some of them fouls, sure, but no way all of them were.
Also, Tony Allen played one of his worst games in the last two months, I expect him to bounce back with a much better overall effort in game 2.
I am worried about Manu coming back, and I would not be surprised to see the Spurs win big, but game 3 is gonna be bananas, like nothing ever seen in the FedEx Forum.

I expect the Spurs to blowout the Grizzlies in Game 2. I expect Game 3 to be a close nail-biter. I honestly have no idea why you guys are not starting Shane Battier, with him and Allen on the perimeter playing big minutes - it'd be tough to get a shot off. Sam Young looks like a nice player but Shane is the man. I expect George Hill to play much better next game, and who knows, maybe we'll have a Tiago Splitter sighting! (Spurs fans, including me, really love this guy - wish we could see him on the floor more, especially considering his size)

As far as Shane starting, many Grizz fans are clamoring for it, but Shane is not as young as he used to be, and I wonder if thats a concern for Hollins. Sam Young only played 15 minutes, so even though he is starting he is not logging heavy minutes. At this point I think, don't fix what aint broke. Sam Young has been starting for a while and we have been winning, so, who knows. But its def. something that a lot of Grizz fans wanna see. Damn I didn't even know they had Tiago Splitter, why didn't he get some burn? McDyess was getting abused for a while, I would have thought Splitter could have done a better job. How Blair does the stuff he does is beyond me, he went 1 v 3 and got several rebounds over guys 4 inches taller than him, thats so damn frustrating as a fan of the opposing team.

Thing with Splitter is he logged big time minutes earlier in the season and SUCKED horribly.
I'm still saying it and have said it everywhere, Spurs in 7. Spurs win game 2, 3, Grizzlies win game 4 and 6 and Spurs games 5 and 7, simple.

He put up 4.6 ppg on 53 percent shooting from the field for the season in only 12.3 mpg. He played great against Utah on the 9th when he had 13 points and 8 boards in only 19 minutes. I think you're probably thinking of the Lakers game when the Spurs rested their Big 3 (and almost won the game) and he had an off-night.

Pop is known for being hard on the rookies. He benched George Hill during his first playoffs (due to George's attitude, it was rumored), and Blair didn't get a lot of time during the playoffs last year when he was a rookie. Blair is a very nice player, he hits some ridiculous shots and his big heart is what helps him get to most rebounds. He's just under-sized and he tends to get blocked a lot by taller defenders. If he could work on a killer pump fake and draw more fouls instead of blocks, he'll be much better. Splitter will probably play a bigger role next year. We're not sure if Dyess is retiring after this season or not (conflicting reports), and I think you could see Tiago starting next to Timmy next year. But man, I would just love to see him on the floor now. The one complaint leveled against the Spurs is their lack of size when it comes to big men outside of Timmy, and with Tiago being 6'11 and proving that he knows how to correctly put his hands straight-up on defense instead of leaning into his man with his arms at an angle - I think he could be effective. But I'll trust Pop, he has more rings than I do, so we'll see what he decides.

grizz didn't tank to get the spurs. can't believe how overblown this is getting. There was no reason to risk key players getting injured when you're going to have to play a top 3 team regardless of whether your the 8, 7, or 6 seed. Grizz sit players it's tanking. Spurs sit players it's strategy. If the grizz were tanking against the Blaze why did all their other starters still get 30+ minutes

I don't know, it just looked fishy is all. It's strategy for the Spurs because, why play your guys when you know what your seed is going to be? Not the same case for the Grizz.

the pick was a joke to begin with. I can't even remember how many times I posted on the grizz board asking for someone to tell me other than mutombo and mark eaton who came into the league with thabeet's skill set that became anything more than a role player and no one ever could. Even in college he sucked offensively and sucked at rebounding for someone his size. All he could do was block shots and that's only because college didn't have the defensive 3 second rule. I honestly don't understand how the grizz are so horrible at drafting. It's mind boggling. I don't even see most of the players play in college and I guarantee I could make better picks just off scouting reports. And that's not an exaggeration either. nate, it is because the grizz have the disease also known as chris wallace as GM. this is what i had to endure for several years as a celtics fan. it was miserable having to see what he would come up with for trades and draft picks. it was a great day when he was fired in boston.

Nice, would love to see John back in SLOP and SLOR. I think he'll find it's quite different than when he left. He was always one of the more entertaining and involved GMs around.

I heard the players get a BILLION dollar bonus for getting the 7th seed, oh wait, no, thats not true, you don't get anything, you will never have homecourt regardless, so yeah, actually, it was pointless to win the game.

Not the same case for the Grizz. because the spurs were still playing for homecourt advantage if they and bulls made it to the finals, which IMO opinion is far more important than whether the grizz have the 8, 7, or 6 seed since we'll pretty much never have homecourt advantage in the playoffs

If I ever finish my dissertation I am gonna get on some SLOC, it seems like a lot of fun from what I can tell. Back to the NBA, the Heat have looked pretty good, then again, they aren't playing much. I like the 6ers, but they are a few years away from being legit. I feel really bad when I watch Elton Brand play, man 6 years ago or so, he was gonna be legit, now he is just a shell, but kudos to him for playing hard and all, not doing the T-Mac. 6ers look to be in a good spot once Boston's players all die from old age in a couple of years.
