I know youre from the Bay Area. stanford is my favorite college team and I was planning to be them in the college league before I realized I didn't have enough time

Free Agency is probably a big part of your plan. I would just point out to you that this league is probably where it's harder to get good Free Agents. Don't expect to get some at fair price. That's where the previous GM failed. Think as a player, even if you pay a couple extra millions, would you want to go to the worse franchise in the league? So my advice is, pick a few good (and possible) targets and overpay to get those.
PS: I'm assuming you can use the advice. If you already knew this, I'm guessing it can't hurt.

I plan to go big with a handful of guys, then try and fill up on some medium priced guys, signed for the short term. I doubt Ill overpay for mediocre talent, just isnt a good practice in general.

Exactly. But also keep in mind that those that are already worth a max contract will be maxed. If you max Martinas (from Sonics) you still won't get him. The best bet is to go after the young guys who are just crossing the star line and if possible the ones no one has bird rights over. Last season there were a few. Bucks stole Ivey for 3M but I would have offered 8.5M (I was actually close to sending bids for the Knicks but that's a different story that doesn't matter now). People would call that overpaying just like they called 12.5 for Telfair overpaying. Look at him now. Both were UFA without birds rights. Just like Roberson on the Kings. Those 3 together could have been a great start for the Knicks franchise. But the GM missed out on them and got stuck with....Hernandez
