Yes, I'm addicted to logos! This will be different from the retro NBA/SLOX logo thread that I started in the SLOX General Discussion page. While this thread will only feature professional basketball logos, it will feature no NBA logos. That's already been done. Hopefully these will feature some logos you haven't seen before, and I love good logos, especially older ones. I wasn't totally sure where to post this thread, but this area seems applicable. That said, here we go................................................ Our first logo? The Daytona Beach Surf of the All-American Basketball Alliance. Dumb team name, but at least it's applicable to where the team is located, so that earns it some good marks. But even better, the logo is imaginative, isn't overly flashy, it's catchy and it incorporates the team name. I love this logo! The All-American Basketball Alliance was restarted in 2004 after a league of the same name existed for only the 1977-78 season. There was a league called the American Basketball Association (no, not the one in existence from 1967 to 1976) that was started in 2000 and didn't last long. It seems some of the teams come from this league. More logos coming soon. Stay tuned!

Oh hell, one more logo won't hurt. Two logos for the first day, what a bonus! This team is from the same league, the All-American Basketball Alliance, the Arkansas Scorpions: Very plain, but a fun logo. I like the team name for some reason and it just seems to work, though I can't exactly explain why. Scorpions have nothing to do with basketball, but they inspire a kind of fear and I like the tail spinning the basketball.

Next installment..... The Des Moines Dragons of the AABA: I thought that this was pretty average, but a friend liked it a lot, so I'm posting it. I like the gray flames though. However, outside of that, I just don't see anything special. Nothing bad, just nothing great.

Again from the AABA... The St. Louis Bombers. I like the basketball made into a bomb a lot. Simple, it can be loosely associated with basketball as a player who is a long range "bomber" but also have a good connotation with action for a nickname with airplanes. Good stuff!

Here's one from the old American Basketball Association (ABA) that was in existence from 1967 to 1976 and was a rebel league to the NBA during that time and caused the NBA a lot of grief. They signed many stars away (like Rick Barry and Billy Cunningham for instance) from the NBA. Finally in 1976, when the ABA folded, the ABA and NBA reached an agreement that the New York (became New Jersey) Nets, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets would come into the NBA. Here's a logo from the ABA Baltimore Claws, only in existence for the 1975 season: No real reason why I like it, but I like that the claws fit into the "C" and that they're holding the basketball. Very plain and simple. This could only work in the 1970's I bet. ;D At the same time, I'm a little scared of what the logos looked like. But wait! Ok, not as bad as I thought...at least they didn't go with the green and orange (or is it red) on the uniforms!

I don't know...I sorta liked this logo of the Houston Rockets, also of the old ABA. Not that great at all really, but I kinda liked the rocket dribbling the basketball over the Rockies for some reason. Pretty boring, but I'm a little surprised no one liked the Baltimore Claws! Claws! What a great name!

From the Kentucky Colonels of the old ABA... I've always liked this logo. Simple, plain, a bit catchy with the oversized "C" that's connected to the "K". To me just a cool looking logo. The Colonels were in existenced from 1970 to 1976, when the ABA finally folded.

LOL, you just say that because you seem to think Dr. J is hands-down the greatest player to step on a basketball court and need some sort of defense when no one in their right mind agrees with you.

Next for the Pro Basketball Logo of the Day is... The old ABA's Virginia Squires. The last two SCREAM retro! I love the first two though. Not a great team name, but at the same time, "Squires" work well for Virginia as one of the 13 original colonies, I like how they went with that. But the first two logos work well with the "Squire" in his old coat and hat dribbling across Virginia state. Hey, and speaking of Julius Erving, the first pro basketball team that he played for was the Virginia Squires. They sold him to the New York Nets in 1972, but they had to as they were very short of money. That helped them to stay alive a lot longer in the ABA. Their entire franchise life spanned from 1970-1976 and in just those six years, they changed their logo three times, with the last two being both their logos from 1974-1976.
