Wow, I lagged. I didn't keep up with the Logo of the Day, though I'm sure you all were really missing it! I had my football league's auction on Sunday, so I was tied up with that. But back to it! This is also from the old ABA's Memphis Sounds... Kind of boring, but I like how they use the "S" as a musical note. Nothing special, but I sort of like it. The Memphis Sounds were only in existence for one year, from 1974-1975.

Ok, here's finally one for today......................... Again from the old ABA, the Miami Floridians: Well, it's hard to think of a worse team name than the Miami Floridians. Jeez, that's BAD. But, incredibly, their logos really aren't that bad at all. Very VERY retro, but I like them. The first one is cool with the basketball carrying the state of Florida. Nice touch there. That was used from 1968 to 1970. The second and third ones absolutely scream retro, but they still look cool, especially the second one with the purple and red "I". That gives it a nice touch to me. The second logo was used from 1970 to 1971, and then the second logo from 1971 to 1972. After that, the Floridians were done as a franchise.

i've always wanted to try an auction style football league, but never knew 10 GMs who would be willing Stork, we should talk sometime on IM about it. Maybe you'd be willing to join my league sometime. We're going to be expanding from 12 to 16 franchises over the next two years, so if you're interested we should definitely talk.

I love this one; from the Spirits of St. Louis in the old ABA... I like the red one more, but tough not to like this logo. Very retro, and it's tough not to like a team named after the Charles Lindbergh plain which flew across the Atlantic. Simple but not boring either.

This might be one of my five favorite logos ever. This is from the Anaheim Amigos from the old ABA. The Amigos were only around from 1967 to 1968, then they were sold and became the Los Angeles Stars. Of course, if logos meant success, the Amigos would still be around today! Not at all basketball themed, but the basketball has a shape of a mexican hat - how can you not love that. Totally retro, and not at all PC. Of course, there are numerous non-PC names in pro sports, so this team could fly today, it's possible. In any case, I absolutely love this logo!

This is from the Pittsburgh Condors of the old ABA, who used to be the Pittsburgh Pipers from 1967-1970. The first logo was used in the 1970-71 season and the second in the 1971-72 season. I like the second one a lot. I'm surprised no other pro sports teams use the name "Condors". Hawks, Falcons, even Blue Jays...but not Condors. Surprising. The second one is very retro and is just kind of catchy to me. Not a great logo, but I do like it.

Ok, here's NOT how to name a team. This is from the Oakland "Oaks" from the old ABA. Usually, the rule is - a terrible team name is followed by a terrible team logo. The rule applies perfectly here. A horrendous team name...and the logo is pretty close. They actually weren't that bad of a team in the old ABA. The Oaks were in existence from 1967 to 1969 and then became the Washington Caps (yes, Caps...not Capitols or anything else - another atrocious team name). This franchise even had Rick Barry for two seasons, a major star from the NBA who lent some credibility to the ABA.

This is from the San Diego Conquistadors from the old ABA. They were in existence from 1972 to 1975 and attempted to sign Wilt Chamberlain to play for them, but the Los Angeles Lakers sued them, so Chamberlain only was able to coach. He only lasted a season, but then former Celtics Hall of Famer K.C. Jones took over. San Diego has a ton of Spanish history (I lived there for five years) and the Conquistadors definitely plays on that which I find really cool.

Can't get much more San Diego, than the San Diego Sails. Bad team name, but I can't say I mind the logo. Not sure of what the basketball is doing, but maybe it's moving down the court and creating a wind for the sail? Strange...but I'll go with it. The Sails didn't last long in the old ABA, but it's still one of the many pro basketball franchises that tried to give San Diego a shot, but it like the others, it didn't work out.

The ABA died in 1976, but a semi-pro league of the same name came about in 2000. Not a lot of good logos in this league but this one caught my eye... This is from the Reigning Knights of Georgia. Not much to do with basketball, but I thought the logo was very cool.

To catch up... This is also from the semi-pro ABA league, made in 2000. I like this logo. Not basketball related, but it works in terms of being related to the region, with Jacksonville. I also like how the wave is gripping the basketball. Simple, but effective.
