NEVER buy a gateway computer. Ever. Compaq sucks too, but not as bad as gateway.

I don't like Gateway, Compaq, and Dell. I think they all blow. The best way is to get it custom built, build it yourself, or an e-machine.
I heard alot of good shit about e-machines.

i've never had any bad experiences with dell, probably because I don't own a dell. compaq has pretty good customer service, probably because they need it a lot. Gateway's customer service sucks, and their product sucks. and you have to send it in to get it fixed because there's no more gateway stores

I've had the same Dell laptop for around 5 years now and still use it. So, I like Dell. E-Machines are the low grade systems. I use a Mac now, working pretty good so far.

E-Machines are the low grade systems. Yeah, I just like that they use regular parts and not factory parts like Dell or something. So if something goes wrong, you can replace it yourself. You don't have any troubles with your Mac?

I had a pretty big problem when I first got it, but that was a faulty graphic card. Mac had just released the systems and they had problems with that. Once I got that fixed, I haven't had any problems, as of yet. That was about a year ago.

You think it is the same as a normal computer speed wise and what not?
My work partner had a Mac, he was telling me about all kinds of problems. I guess he was saying it was incredibly slow, and stuff like that. Maybe he just had a piece of junk one.

Yeah, my desktop is a Gateway that is so old, well...
It has a disclaimer about Y2K it came with.
But I haven't had a problem with it that wasnt my own fault. I got the 3 year service agreement and anytime I needed something, they were right there.
My wife has a Dell Inspiron that is going on 4 years old that was problematic, but Dell was very responsive. In fact, when the LCD had a problem, they came to fix it once, and then they just sent me a refurbished one that was twice as fast and large in every category. Its had it problems, but I attribute that to running Win ME on a machine built for Win XP (long story, not Dells fault).
My laptop from work is a Dell latitude and its the least troublesome computer I've ever had.
My biggest problem these days is Spyware that Ad-Aware and Spybot dont catch.
Grrr..

The thing I hate about custom machines is matching up the drivers and such.

The thing I hate about custom machines is matching up the drivers and such. Yeah, I ran into that a couple times. But, with enough research I got it all figured out. I got a Dell Laptop that I use for work too. Haven't really had any problems with it, just minor stuff. But I blame that on my company, not Dell.

Ahh, they taught us in my Microsoft Class that Win ME was the worst operating system made. I remember I bought a computer about 5 years ago that had that on it, it was horrible. I used it for a week, then had to get a new operating system.

Mojo I'm having the exact same problems. Spybot has helped alot to make my internet connection workable. The problem with the spyware and adware now is that it gets into your programming code in internet explorer. The way to go I've been told is to do a fresh install on your system and use Firefox instead of internet explorer. Then use Mozila(probably spelled wrong) as your blocker. There is also an article in todays SJ Mercury News about this.
As far as Computers I've always been a fan of Dell. Definately Dell with the extended service agreement for a laptop. That's what I use at work and home and there customer service is excellent. But for a desktop these days almost everything from Dell is proprietory which is a problem for upgrading and repairs. All my Desktops have been put together by a private party which makes upgrading and repairs easy and cost effective. Depending on what graphics card you use a top of the line system can be put together for $1000 to $1500.

I have a Dell. It's nothing special, but I haven't had to get it fixed or anything like that, so it has been pretty reliable.
