If you just want to watch a turn your brain off monster popcorn flick, Kong vs Godzilla is a fun watch. Would have been good to see in the theater with a packed crowd.

Watched the Mortal Kombat movie last night before it left HBO Max today. If you grew up with the game, it's worth a watch. Not great, but nice to finally see a R rated Mortal Kombat movie. The sweep kick scene was pretty funny for people that used to play. If you take every movie serious, this isn't for you, but if you're down for some nostalgia and a brain turn off, then it's a solid popcorn flick.

Action was cool, hated Cole but other than that I was happy with it. People expect way to much out of a mortal Kombat movie haha

Speaking of fun, turn your brain off movies, has anyone watched Army of the Dead yet? I had fun with it, but let down since Snyder's Dawn of the Dead is one of the best zombie movies ever. Movie makes zero fucking sense when you put it up to any logic to it.
Wish James Gunn would have stuck around and wrote the script as he did with Dawn of the Dead and let Snyder focus on directing because the movie looks fucking great.

Movie Boss Level on Hulu is a fun action flick if you like the Groundhog Day genre (repeat the same day).

Gunn's Suicide Squad is pretty fun. Hope they give Gunn greenlight to do a sequel, and build on this one.

Against my better judgement I watched Army of The Dead. I figured a heist and/or zombie movie was so completely overdone that at this point the only reason you'd make one is to have a really interesting or crazy twist on it. I guess not. Let's just pump out another basic zombie movie. Other than a few really cool "Zack Snyder" signature shots the movie was completely fucking stupid. It was even a good action movie if you went into it thinking "I don't care about plot, I just want a popcorn movie". Maybe if I was 15 and I just wanted to see Zombies I'd be excited by it...maybe. Worst movie I've seen since Wonder Woman 1984.
How this movie got 75% on Rotten Tomatoes is fucking beyond me.
Oh shoot. My broken helicopter has had the engine catch on fire twice. I'll just fix it in an hour, by myself, on a rooftop, with zero supplies. Give me a break. People were going crazy about Tig Notaro's performance after the movie so I thought there would be something there. She didn't do anything interesting with it and the fact that she was green screened into most of her shots was insanely obvious. I'm not even a high brow movie person so it's not like a popcorn movie is beneath me. I hate artsy fartsy movies.

I enjoyed the new Suicide Squad way more than I thought I would have. It was funny and quirky, kind of like what I'd expect from a move that goes full 'comic book' mode. Well made and all that as well.
A lot of the stuff that's considered quirky or off-beat these days is stupid cartoons like Bojack Horseman or Rick and Morty. Stuff that basically just says "Look at how weird and irreverant I am." "Oooh...look at me I'm subverting the form, aren't I c-c-c-crazy?!?"
Suicide Squad is just doing what it needs to do to make a good movie. It isn't going out of its way to point a finger at how 'weird' it is like a lot of stuff these days.

How much of Bojack Horseman and Rick and Morty have you watched? While they have some stupid episodes, they also have alot of great episodes that are anything but stupid. Bojack actually gets dramatic and serious, but a casual watcher can easily write it off due to the characters being animals and not giving it a fair chance. It gets better as it goes and finds its footing. I majored in Media Art and studied film, not mentioning this to act like my opinion has more merit, but mentioning it to say I'm not someone easily duped by something going "Look at how weird and irreverant I am." "Oooh...look at me I'm subverting the form, aren't I c-c-c-crazy?!?" Things like that can be annoying, but I think applying that to Bojack is a disservise to the show it becomes.

Not trying to trash on anyone's favorite shows. Maybe Bojack is a poor example. I also don't know what "subverting the form" means, but I've heard smart people say it. I'm on the internet, I'm well positioned to just yell out my opinions without being able to back them up.
I should probably just be more generic and say I generally don't like shows that are too aware of themselves. There is a lot of "weird for the sake of being weird" stuff out there that turns me off. Even in slapstick shit like Hot Shots they tend not to be overly self aware.
Anyone ever play Borderlands? How every character is completely self aware. How every boss seems to understand the trope that they're portraying. They make a bunch of meta comments. I hate that shit.

The gun play is pretty good, although it becomes VERY bullet spongey in some cases and only gets worse as the series progresses. The co-op aspect of it is amazing. Graphics are good. Performance is good. The main NPCs and bosses are fucking annoying for the most part. They're not funny and the self aware bad guy thing gets old very quickly. The "upgrade by a thousand sidegrades" approach to equipment is one of the worst design directions the industry has taken in years and Borderlands is one of the worst offenders. Only Early Access and microtransactions are worse. Every time I pick up a new gun I have to do a fucking math problem in my head to determine if it's .001% better than my previous gun.

But there are OVER 1 BILLION GUNS. Are you telling me that you haven't dropped them all into a spreadsheet and sorted them yet?!?!?! I refuse to believe that.
