If that trade goes through, they'll be a playoff team in the east for sure.

Spurs and Sixers offseasons have been pretty boring.
As far as the draft, I'm happy with the Spurs by taking Splitter, he's going to be good. Spurs also traded away Scola (after about oh, 5 offseasons of thinking he'd be coming at some point) for crap so I wasn't real thrilled about that deal.
As far as Sixers, why Thaddeus Young, why? Why not Julian Wright or Al Thornton (and they really need Thornton now with Joe Smith gone), doesn't make sense to me when they've already got Carney and Iggy.
Except for the KG deal surfacing the last 24 hours, this has been one of the most boring offseasons I can recall.

Im not ready to call them a finals team just yet. They will have a great starting 5, but it will take a complete team to get there. Hope they prove me wrong though, but i dont see them as a lock for the finals. Contenders though defiantely, and im not saying they dont have a chance..however i like the pistons over them at this point.

is anyone in here a die hard Celts fan?
personally, I hope to see them fall flat on their face....
the funny thing from a Griz-fans perspective is some people wanted us to trade Pau for #5/Jefferson/Green/filler last year at the deadline....and to think that after adding in some more filler (and more draft picks) that that package got them both KG and Ray Allen....
either way there is one big reason why this isn't going to easily translate into success....his name is Doc Rivers...

I think they could easily make the finals in the east if there is any chemistry at all - but I'm with you phdsims, I'm hoping they fall flat on their face.

That's mean, I'd like to see those guys have some success. Pierce, Allen, and Garnett are great players that deserve their shot.

Yeah but I have an unhealthy hatred for all things Boston and New York.

Celts just got a lot better.
However, I don't see them winning the title for some reason. I just can't see them beating a team like the Spurs if they got to the Finals.
With that said, Boston is definitely a contender. In today's NBA, you win with stars and now the Celts have 3 of them. They need to add some role players, but the hard part is basically done.

You win with stars, good role players, luck, being healthy, getting hot in May and finally the right suspensions at the right time. It takes a lot to talk about a championship but they sure look good in the East. If the LeBron Cavs did it...

Wright will be a good role player, but his shooting will prevent him from being more than that IMO. Al had a very good summer league, but given his age I think Thad has shown more at a younger age and therefore has a greater ceiling. Al is 4 years older than Thad and is only marginally better right now.

Celts have a pretty good team on paper, but they have zero experience together. The Lakers were "supposed" to win with Shaq, Kobe, Malone, and Payton. We see what happened there. Unless they display some ridiculous chemistry I can't see them knocking off the Spurs. Celts next year will be like the USA team the last few years. Big names, but not a real team.
