im not sure if im happy about this or mad about this, but im leaning on the side of being happy... it takes away the suns best defender, and they have guards like Durant, Kobe, Roy in there division, so not much else to guard them. Also SHaq doesn't fit into the system. Lakers win this deal i say.

Yeah, for real. How is Shaq gonna keep up with this team? And you trade him for Marion? Not a good deal for the Suns at all.

I understand why the Suns do it from a business stand point. They were going to be in luxuray tax hell, and couldn't get anyone to take on Marion and banks contracts. They screwed themselves by trying to pay everyone on that roster 8 million plus per season. that's why they gave away kurt thomas during the draft, even though he was a big exp. they couldn't even afford to hold on to that exp contract. Now they get a 24 million dollar contract that will exp in two seasons oppose to Marion and Banks who still 4 years left. if they would had kept them, they would be in the same situation as the Knicks in 2003. Shaq doesn't fit the team at all, but out of all the players they could grab with a exp contract in 2 seasons, he was the best. And I'm mot convinced that Shaq hasn't already told th Heat and Suns that he will retire at the end of the season anyways.

If this goes through it's not as terrible as everyone seems to call it right now. I mean, it does indeed seem odd since he is the opposite of their current style but it's a worth a shot come playoff time. Marion always disapears in the playoffs and word is, he and stoudamire weren't exactly best friends so that wasn't helping the team chemistry. Not to mention he was seeking a huge contract when he wasn't #1 or even #2 on that team. So his loss isn't a huge deal. I still think he is good but not as good as Nash and the Suns made him look. Shaq on the other hand is a winner. He clearly lacks the motivation right now to even play but going to the Suns might change this. He's still capable of giving something the Suns don't have come playoff time. Not to mention Amare is being detroyed by opp centers every night and him shifting to PF can do wonders for the suns. Shaq is a big upgrade defensively, financially this deal makes sense and as for the offense, it's hard to picture him being happy not getting many touches but Nash is so amazing there's little doubt in my mind he'll find a way to get him involved.
In the end I think it can work and I don't believe they'll win the championship with what they have right now despite the best record (especially with Lakers getting Gasol and if Dallas gets Kidd) so it's worth a shot.

Marior could opt out this season... if he opted out, then that gave the SUns a huge boost, Shaq has 2 seasons, AFTER this deal. how doest this help? you give up a potential expiring(if not this year but next year) to get an old Center that doesn't fit the system...

As weird as this deal sounds, I think it would help the Suns come playoff time.
It allows them to matchup a lot better with the Spurs. With the Lakers getting Gasol, the Suns probably feel that they need to get bigger.
Overall, I think it would be a decent deal for both franchises.

Good luck Suns fans if you are counting on Shaq for defense. In every game Ive seen him play this season his defense has consisted of hacking a quicker player who blows right by him as if hes not even there and fouling out in 25 mins.

Great website that has video feeds of both live and archived NBA and NCAA basketball games www.raptorsnation.net/Can anybody suggest a certain game I should watch that shows Shaq playing above average defense?

Awful, awful deal for the Suns. The only possible reason I can see for this is that Marion and Stoudamire can't even exist together anymore. Even then, they couldn't have got Kirilenko or some other player that's not completely finished like Shaq is? I like it though, the Lakers road to the Finals just got easier.
