He's not as good as everybody thinks he is. Jogo's right he never shows up in the playoffs, and he really doesn't stop anybody from scoring. Sure he guards every position but he never really stops 'em. The only thing we'll miss is his rebounding (although our rebounding sucked even with him), and on the rare occasions when he's feeling pumped, he does a good job of getting in the passing lanes for steals.

Do you still think its wise dealing him for Shaq?
Or is it a last ditch effort to win a title before Nash gives it away

Fuck 82games.com I'm sick of stat geeks using that shit and then pretending they can use it as a relevant argument.
Sirp it's definitely an effort to get a title before Nash is done...I just don't think Shaq was the best they coulda done for Marion. I think if Shaq is healthy then it will work out pretty well, and if there's any training staff that can get him right, its the Suns' but that's a huge IF.

Yes! One of my favorite clips ever. And whoever said the Suns are scarier now is absolutely nuts. Have you watched Shaq at all the past couple of years?

It's usually those that don't watch basketball or those that watch it but don't actually see it that like to use geek stats to form their opinion on certain players. It's understandable cause it's all they have. Still stats are nothing more than a mathematical tool to help explain what happens in a game but there are lots of variables that aren't explained by stats. For example, KG is a great guy to have in the middle. His long arms change lots of shots but he doesn't get credit for those with blocks. Marion the other hand can finish the game with amazing stats, in a win or loss, but his importance to a win is usually overated by those stats. Anyone that thinks Marion is more important to the Suns than Amare probably never watched a Suns game or simply isn't very smart. Marion is very good in the NBA but not as good to his team as he is in fantasy basketball to his teams.
Hell, there was a season when I saw almost no NBA basketball but followed lots of boxscores. If I didn't know better, judging by stats, that year I would have thought Brad Miller was a top 2 center in the NBA.

The +/- stat has absolutely nothing to do with fantasy basketball and everything to do with winning games. When Marion is on the floor the Suns outscore their opponents at a faster rate relative to Amare. You are welcome to try to spin that truth any way you wish, but your general criticism of most stats clearly doesn't apply in this case. ' It's pretty obvious you haven't watched Shaq play this season. As I posted before the Heat games have been archived here... www.raptorsnation.net/Which games should I watch that show Shaq playing above average defense?

It really is hilarious listening to some of you trying to defend this deal while claiming that Marion isn't really all that good.

Marion IMO is one of those guys who needs a guy like Nash to be allstar caliber. He isn't a guy who can create his own shot... Although i don't know why he would want to with his form. He isn't as good as his stats suggest atleast half his points are breakaway dunks. That system made Marion good, he wouldn't be half the player in a regular offense. IMO

so is O'neal just going to alternate running down the court on offense. Run up one time and play, get back on D, stay on D, while rest of team runs.LOL.
