Seems like I have a lot invested in this guy...or will. Think he'll hold up his end of the bargain? I've never really liked him...don't know why, so I feel iffy drafting him 4th overall. He fell to me with the 9th pick in one league so I had to draft him. Think he'll put up solid stats? Debate :-)

of course barber will hold up. he's 31 which isn't really that old, and much more importantly, he didn't log heavy yards/carries in his early career. but you're right 31 is an age where it's time to get very concerned. curtis martin proved that right, but barber is an exceptional case i think because of his limited duty early in his career.
he doesn't have a lot of hits on his body and had his best season of his career, by far, last year. he has a good offensive line helping him, and a rising quarterback/team. what's not to like?
if it's a redraft, don't take him 4th overall, but he's probably a good 1st round draft choice. at #9 you could do a LOT worse than barber.

I would have to agree there. I would feel safer with Tiki than a number backs currently in the game.

i hate to say it, because he's probably my favorite NFL player, but i may be more confident in having barber this season, than edgerrin james. just to take an example.
james will undoubtedly go higher in drafts usually, but barber's in the better situation right now.

In my $100 (points per reception) league that allows keepers at the expense of a draft pick...
I drafted Larry Johnson in the 10th round 2 years ago and held onto him...so he's a 4th round keep for me this year (and a 1st round keeper next). I traded up to the 1.3 so I could get Barber or if someone really f's up and doesn't take LT then I would grab him. Lately I've seen Barber drop in a lot of mock drafts. Portis seems to be the trendy pick. Barber also hasn't miss a game in about 4 years...but maybe, like you suggested, thats because his workload was orginally low.

it's true - if you look at his stats, you'll see they are way too low, his rushing stats. part of that is because he was on special teams in the beginning of his career.
but man, keeping larry johnson and then having the chance to draft someone like barber or heck, even LT is unbelievable. with that, you're already five steps ahead of everyone else.
this year, i think barber will be fantastic. next year? probably, but i'll be curious how this season goes first. i definitely do not see a corey dillon like sudden collapse simply again, because barber's workload hasn't been as long and hard as dillon's. also, the giants are a rising team, and arguably their most valuable player is barber.

I think he'll be fine, but not as good as he did last year. He's probably worth a late 1st, but definetly not the 4th overall pick. He is getting old, but his body doesn't have the wear and tear of a normal 30 year old back since he wasn't full-time early in his career.
