Twins lose Guerrier to fractured thumb
SEATTLE -- Minnesota right-hander Matt Guerrier fractured the base of his right thumb Thursday when Seattle's Richie Sexson lined a pitch off his hand during the Twins' 7-3 win over the Mariners.
Guerrier said he doesn't remember seeing the ball coming at him, and blamed himself for the mistake pitch that allowed Sexson to make such solid contact.
His fourth pitch in relief of starter Johan Santana likely leaves him out for a while -- Guerrier estimated six weeks.
The 27-year-old Guerrier, whose first full major league season was last year with the Twins, has a 3.34 ERA and has thrown 32 1/3 innings in 21 games.
