Indians recall Shoppach, designate Laker for assignment June 23, 2006 CBS SportsLine.com wire reports CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians recalled catcher Kelly Shoppach from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday and designated catcher Tim Laker for assignment.
Shoppach hit .282 (22-for-78) with four home runs and nine RBI in 21 games for Buffalo after being sent down on May 20.
Shoppach was one of three players acquired from Boston in the January deal that sent outfielder Coco Crisp to the Red Sox. He hit .250 (4-for-16) with two RBI in eight games, including five starts, while he was with the Indians earlier this season.
Laker, 36, made four starts during his five-week stint with the club, hitting .308 (4-for-13) with two RBI.
He has a .226 career average with 11 homers and 79 RBI in 282 games in the majors with the Indians, Montreal, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay.
