5/23 Update
James sounding like he'll sign extension
It's looking like LeBron James is going to sign his contract extension with the Cavs, and is even talking about it being a quick and painless procdure.
Nothing will happen until July 1, but this is great news for the Cavs, meaning they'll have him locked in through the 2011-12 season, unless he demands a trade before then. He also said his next goal is to "win a championship," which is not surprising. However, he'll likely need more help to pull that one off.

Larry Brown says he thinks he'll be fired
Source: ESPN.com
A source told ESPN that Larry Brown has told friends that he is going to be fired by the Knicks.
The source also said Brown has told friends that no one from the Knicks has spoken directly to him in the last three weeks, which is significant since Brown had bladder surgery on Friday, and has been recovering at his home in suburban New York. It's safe to say that the LB era is over in New York, almost as quickly as it began. Isiah Thomas is expected to take over the head coaching position next season.

Gordon to Knicks?
Source: New York Post
The Knicks and Bulls have reportedly discussed a trade that would send Ben Gordon to the Knicks for "one of their elite" point guards and a first-round pick.
We assume that one of the "elite" guys is either Stephon Marbury or Steve Francis, who didn't look so elite under Larry Brown last year. If the Knicks were a fantasy team, Marbury would be the perfect definition of a "buy low" guy. Then you throw in the pick and it looks like a pretty good deal for the Bulls. Of course, there is so much turmoil in New York right now with Larry Brown supposedly headed out the door, we're wondering when anyone from the Knicks has had time to deal with anything else. And what happens to Kirk Hinrich if Marbury comes to the Bulls? This trade sounds like a long shot to us, but then again, John Paxson has had pretty good success in the past making trades with Isiah Thomas.
Brown goodbye New York, hello Sacramento?
Source: New York Daily News
The New York papers are saying that Larry Brown is out in New York, meaning he may become the No. 1 guy on the Maloof brothers' hit list this summer.
The owners of the Kings say they want a defensive-minded coach and they would probably jump at the chance to get Brown to coach the Kings. Brown's relationship with his last two owners didn't end well, but the Maloof's surely feel they can work with Brown and already have guys who "play the right way." Golden St. has also popped up in the Brown speculation, but as of now, he's still the coach of the Knicks.
Carter on the outs for Nets?
Source: New York Daily News
A column in the New York Daily News Monday says that Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson cannot play together and that one of them will be dealt this summer.
There were concerns of this before the season, but Carter's 12-of-28 performance on Sunday and Jefferson's disappearing act and inability to get to the line in this series are starting to make the fears a reality. "Unfortunately, I just work here," said Jefferson. "As long as I have been here, I have never been about offense and this and that. Defense, that has been more the story." Rumor has it that he has been unhappy with the way the ball has been distributed, specifically because once it goes into Carter, it rarely comes back out. The Nets will likely offer Carter and two draft picks for Kevin Garnett this summer.

Jarrett Jack to have ankle surgery Friday
Jarrett Jack will undergo surgery Friday to remove scar tissue and loose particles from his left ankle, the Blazers announced Thursday.
Jack will undergo the procedure in L.A. and will face a recovery period of 8-10 weeks. That measn he won't be available for the Las Vegas Summer League in July. "Jarrett played the entire season on an ankle that he badly sprained prior to the draft last year," Trail Blazers general manager John Nash said. "It never healed fully and he should be physically superior this coming season as a result of this procedure."
5/11 Update
Cassell wants ''some kinda milliions'' next year
Sam Cassell had 23 points, five boards, six assists and two threes as the Clippers ran over the Suns in Phoenix in Game 2. The series is now tied 1-1 and resumes on Friday in L.A.
Cassell was asked by the TNT crew about returning to L.A. next year. After saying he was just here to play basketball, he added that the Clippers will need to step up to keep him next year. "I don't want $25 million," he said, but added "but I want some kinda millions." Classic. He's clearly the leader of this team and if they eliminate the Suns to advance to the Western Finals, look for the Clips to pony up whatever it takes to keep him in a Clippers uniform next year.
5/10 Updates
Jackson ''embarrassed'' Bird
Larry Bird says that he expects Stephen Jackson to be back with the Pacers next year, but he will have to make some changes.
"It's up to Stephen to do the right thing," Bird said. "I don't like some of the things he did this year. If he's back here, which I expect him to be, there's going to be some changes. I don't like our fans booing our players, but some of the things Stephen was doing out on the court frustrated me. I was embarrassed at times." Don't be surprised to see Jackson elsewhere next season.
Chris Paul officially named top rookie
Chris Paul officially won the Rookie of the Year by a landslide Wednesday, receiving all but one of the 125 first-place votes from a panel of media members.
Paul led all rookies in points (16.1), assists (7.8), steals (2.2), double-doubles (21), minutes played (36.4) and triple-doubles (2). He also became the second NBA rookie to lead the league in steals, joining Brevin Knight. Deron Williams received the only other first-place vote for the honors.
5/4 Updates
LeBron hits game-winning layup in win
LeBron James hit 14-of-23 shots and 17-of-18 free throws, including the game-winning layup in overtime to give the Cavs a 3-2 lead in the series over Washington.
He finished with a playoff career-high 45 points, seven boards and six assists in the win, and somehow broke free for an easy layup at the end of overtime to put the Wizards' backs up against the wall. Washington's defense is poor at best, and is the reason the Wizards are not up 3-2.
Arenas scores 44 in loss
Gilbert Arenas had a playoff career-high 44 points, and added five rebounds and four assists in Wednesday's loss to the Cavaliers.
He hit six threes, hit 10-of-10 free throws and did everything he could to will the Wizards to a win on Wednesday. But it wasn't enough to stop LeBron and the Cavs, who took a 3-2 lead in this series.
Raja Bell suspended for Game 6
As expected, Raja Bell was suspended for Game 6 based on his clothesline move on Kobe Bryant's neck on Tuesday night.
There is no love loss between the two either. "I have no respect for him," Bell said of Bryant. "I think he's a pompous, arrogant individual." Kobe responded with "I don't know that kid," even though he is several years younger than Bell. The Suns cannot be happy about this, and it will interesting to see what happens now. The Suns could use Bell's absence as motivation, Kobe could go on a 50-point tear without Bell there to guard him, or some combination of the two. Game 6 is Thursday night, and Leandro Barbosa is likely to replace Bell in the starting lineup.
Luke Jackson to have another surgery
Luke Jackson will undergo surgery on his back on Thursday, his second operation in less than two years.
The Cavaliers said on Wednesday that Jackson has been complaining of worsening pain in his right leg and back over the past week. X-rays and an MRI revealed a herniated disc and surgery was recommended. Jackson will need at least four months of rehab, but is expected to recover in time for the start of training camp.
Wade won't sit out Game 6
Source: Chicago Sun-Times
Dwyane Wade, who suffered a bruised left hip Tuesday night, practiced Wednesday and said afterward that he will play tonight when the Bulls host the Heat in Game 6.
"It's still a little sore, but I'm moving better than I thought I would be," Wade said. "I'm very positive about [tonight], feeling I'll be able to be a little more effective than [Tuesday] night." Coach Pat Riley said he will entertain no thoughts of holding out Wade tonight so he could be healthier for a possible Game 7 Saturday.
Snow plays well in the clutch for Cleveland
As hard as it is to believe, Eric Snow's 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting may have been the difference in Wednesday's overtime-win over the Wizards.
He scored the first six points of overtime for the Cavs and that turned out to be the difference in this game. Of course, LeBron's layup with 0.9 seconds left was crucial as well.
5/3 Updates
Stojakovic maybe done for the year
Source: Indianapolis Star
Peja Stojakovic's season sounds like it might be over due to a sore knee.
However, if he's out, that may mean the Pacers only have one game left this season anyway, as they face elimination against the Nets in Game 6 in Indy. "It's a significant situation," Carlisle said. "It is day to day, but it's one of these things that's tough to gauge. We hope he feels good enough to play in Game 6, but I don't know; we'll have to wait and see."
Barkley admists to having a gambling ''habit''
Charles Barkley says he's lost at least $10 million gambling over the years.
He says he won't stop gambling, and that it's his money, no one can tell him what to do with it and that it's not an addicition because he can afford it. However, he also says that he's going to try to play for lower stakes going forward, because he's learned that the house eventually always wins. It sounds like he could write a good book at this point, but it's obvious that he has the income/money to live the lifestyle he's chosen. At least for now.
Kobe ejected in fourth quarter
Kobe Bryant was ejected in the fourth quarter after picking up his second technical foul for barking at Leon Wood after he took a nasty foul from Raja Bell (ejected) and then Kwame Brown was taken to the floor while going up for a layup.
Bryant is going to be fired up for Game 6 on Thursday and may not have to face Raja Bell's stout defense if he's suspended for clotheslining Kobe in the fourth quarter. Clear your calendar for the next game, as these two teams have gotten to the point where they really don't like each other. Kobe finished with 29 points, seven boards, five assists and three three-pointers on 10-of-17 shooting.
Manu bounces back strong in Game 5 win
After struggling mightily in three of the four previous games in this series, Manu Ginobili broke out for 29 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in Tuesday's important win over the Kings.
Maybe it was the fact that Robert Horry started at center tonight, but after scoring just three points in his last game, it's good to see that Manu still has it. He hit 9-of-14 shots in the game.
Van Horn may be back soon
Source: Dallas Morning News
Keith Van Horn will have his right hand X-rayed today.
The Mavs are hopeful he'll be available sometime during Round 2.
Daniels expected back in Round 2
Source: Dallas Morning News
Marquis Daniels (strained right hamstring) should be available at the start of the second-round series.
Avery Johnson said he wasn't sure whether Daniels would get much practice time in, but will be cleared to play, barring setbacks, at the start of the next round.
Wade plans on playing on Thursday
Source: Miami Herald
After he got a "shot in the butt" last night, Dwyane Wade had a great fourth quarter once the pain medication kicked in.
He says he's planning on playing through his hip contusion in Game 6 tomorrow, but he'll likely be a game-time decision.
Duncan rock solid in Game 5 win
Tim Duncan hit 9-of-12 shots for 24 points and added nine rebounds and five assists in the important win for the Spurs.
They once again protected home court, and Duncan played as well as any other Spurs' player tonight.
5/2 Updates
Wade leads Heat despite hip injury
Dwyane Wade had 28 points, five boards, five assists, a steal and a block on 9-of-18 shooting in Tuesday's win over the Bulls.
The Heat now lead the series 3-2 as they head back to Chicago. Wade hit a three and was also 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. He scored 15 points on one leg after returning from his hip injury in the second half, which he suffered on a scary fall on a drive to the hoop. He may be questionable for Game 6, but he got it done tonight.
Shaq has nice game despite 2-of-12 from stripe
Shaquille O'Neal had 16 points, 12 boards and three blocks in Tuesday's Game 5 win over the Bulls.
He was just 2-of-12 from the free throw line, or his stat line would have been much more impressive, despite the fact he was in foul trouble...Again. He was 0-of-9 from the stripe at one point between games 4 and 5, and you have to think he could do better blindfolded, left handed or with his back to the basket, tossing them blindly, over his head.
Kwame Brown investigated for sexual assault
Kwame Brown is reportedly being investigated for sexual assault.
The incident reportedly happened early Saturday morning, a few hours after the Lakers won Game 3, and several hours before they dramatically won Game 4 the following day. There's no more information available at this point, but he'll play tonight.
5/1 Updates
Arenas ditches uniform at halftime
Source: Washington Post
Gilbert Arenas changed his entire uniform at halftime of Sunday's win over the Cavaliers.
It worked, as he struggled to go 1-of-9 in the first half, and took over the game in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points. And he didn't just change his jersey, but his jersey, shorts, shoes and "padded undershorts" as well. No word yet on whether the socks and jock strap were included.
Eddie Jones may sit out tonight
Source: Memphis Commercial Appeal
A severely injured right hand may keep Eddie Jones from playing in Game 4 tonight when the Grizzlies will try to avoid a sweep.
Jones is dealing with an extremely swollen shooting hand, but X-rays taken Sunday were negative. "They say it wasn't broken," Jones said. "But I think there's too much swelling to tell. But if it gets hit I know I'm coming out of the game," he continued. "I'm going to try. I'm going to do what I can." His injury should mean more minutes and touches for Mike Miller, Bobby Jackson and possibly Hakim Warrick.
Evans could be suspended today
Source: Denver Post
Reggie Evans stands a good chance of being suspended for tonight's game some time today, which would really hurt the Nuggets' front line with Kenyon Martin suspended indefinitely.
He clearly grabbed the Clippers' Chris Kaman in a, um, sensitive area. Kaman indicated that it wasn't just an accidental grab either, saying "he tried to rip them off." Kaman also said on of the officials working the game told him that he "would have knocked him out" if it happened to him. The Nuggets have unofficially become the post-season version of the Blazers this year. Julius Hodge was shot, Kenyon Martin has been suspended indefinitely, Carmelo Anthony and Earl Boykins don't exactly sound chummy and George Karl benched Melo in the fourth quarter of a game late in the regular season that saw the Nuggets blow a 20-point lead. They're on the brink of elimination tonight in L.A.
Chandler's ankle sprain ''mild to moderate''
Tyson Chandler's ankle sprain is being called "mild to moderate," meaning he's questionable for Game 5.
The Bulls really need him, so if there's a way he can play through the injury on Tuesday, he will.
James goes off but Cavs lose
LeBron James was on fire early in Sunday's Game 4 against the Wizards, but he and Gilbert Arenas switched places and the Wizards easily handled the Cavs in the second half for the win.
James set franchise playoff records for points in the first half (18) and points in the first half (25) and buried five threes before halftime. But he struggled in the second half, finishing with 38 points, six boards, five assists and seven turnovers on 13-of-23 shooting. He also hit 7-of-12 threes for a nice all-around fantasy line. However, the reality is that he was a one-man show tonight, and the Wizards weren't impressed.
Nash's back tightens late on Sunday
Steve Nash says his back tightened up late in Sunday's game, but didn't use it as an excuse.
He easily could have, as his two costly turnovers hurt the Suns. He should be fine for Tuesday's Game 5.
Diaw to win Most Improved today
Source: Arizona Republic
Boris Diaw will receive the Most Improved Player award today.
Diaw would enjoy the honor a lot more if they were up 3-1 against the Lakers instead of down 3-1. May. 1 - 9:23 am et
Kobe looks like the real MVP in Game 5 win
Kobe Bryant hit a miraculous layup to send Game 4 to overtime and then retrieved a jump ball, penetrated and swished a 16-footer to win the game for the Lakers at the buzzer, putting them up 3-1 against the Suns.
The Lakers were down five with 10 seconds left in regulation, but Smush Parker hit a three, stole the ball from Steve Nash and fed Kobe, who put up a tear drop to send the game to overtime. He finished one of the best games in NBA history with 24 points, four boards and eight assists on 9-of-14 shooting, and NBA fans everywhere should probably demand a re-vote for MVP. The series heads back to Phoenix for Game 5, and then back to L.A. for game six. Both the Lakers and Clippers are up 3-1, meaning we could see them meet in the second round.
Stojakovic very iffy for Tuesday with knee
Source: Indianapolis Star
There's not much new news on Peja Stojakovic's knee injury, but it sounds like the Pacers are planning on playing Tuesday's game without him.
Rick Carlisle will either start Fred Jones (at shooting guard) or Danny Granger (at small forward) in his place if he can't go. If Jones starts, Stephen Jackson would slide over to small forward instead of shooting guard.
Hamilton has good practice on Sunday
Source: Detroit Free Press
Richard Hamilton ran through an off-day workout on Sunday for the first time since he sprained his left ankle in Game 1 of the best-of-seven series with the Bucks.
"I wanted to try to get out there and catch my rhythm back, get some shots up," Hamilton said. "I haven't been able to shoot as many shots as I want to get up in practice time. (Sunday), I wanted to get out there and try to get a rhythm again."
Melo apparently called out by Boykins
Source: Denver Post
With Carmelo Anthony fighting back tears after Denver's Game 4 loss, Earl Boykins was holding court with the media, clearly within earshot of Melo, and basically called him out to the world.
"I don't care what happens. I'm not a person that lacks confidence," Boykins said. "I'm not a person that cries about a loss when you lose. Take it like a man. You don't make excuses. We lost the game. Get ready for Game 5." Anthony is shooting .333 (25-for-75) in the series, but says he hasn't lost his confidence, while also saying he can't beat two or three guys by himself. The Nuggets disastrous past three weeks have probably cost Kiki Vandeweigh his job and as strange as it sounds, it almost seems like they just want to get this over with and go on vacation.
4/30 Updates
Arenas wakes up in fourth quarter for win
Gilbert Arenas was just 1-of-9 in the first half and was 2-of-13 for the game before catching fire early in the fourth quarter, when he scored 20 points.
He finished with 34 points, five boards, six assists, three steals and a block on 8-of-20 shooting for the night. He also hit four threes and hit 14-of-17 free throws on the night, as the Wizards easily pulled away from the Cavs to even the series at 2-2.
Martin out for the rest of the first round
Kenyon Martin's suspension will remain in effect through the first round of the playoffs.
It's starting to look like he's played his last game as a Nugget.
Wade and Payton argue throughout Game 4
Dwyane Wade and Gary Payton were seen arguing for an entire 20-second timeout in Sunday's game and it even carried onto the floor.
Shaq and Antoine Walker were doing their best to stop the dispute but it looked like neither Wade or Payton was interested in just letting it go. The Heat appear to be unraveling right now, and Pat Riley did nothing to try to stop the two stars from going at it. They'll need to get their differences settled soon, as the Bulls have tied the series at 2-2.
Parker posts just one assist in Game 4 loss
Tony Parker had 22 points in Sunday night's loss, but had just one assist.
One assist? The Spurs were dominated by the Kings on Sunday and Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili need to find their games before Tuesday's Game 5 in San Antonio.
Duncan nothing special in Game 4 loss
Tim Duncan had 17 points and eight boards in Sunday's loss in Game 4.
He's just not the same TD we're used to seeing, and if he doesn't get it going soon, the Kings are going to win this series.
Chandler carried off with ankle sprain
Tyson Chandler has been carried off the floor with 26.3 seconds left in Game 4 and the Bulls up three points.
He had just one point and three boards, but made a huge impact on the game defensively despite the lack of numbers. His status for Game 5 is questionable.
Tim Thomas not happy with officials
Tim Thomas could receive a small fine for his comments after Game 5 on Sunday, a loss to the Lakers.
"We have Nash, the NBA's MVP last year, and he can't get a call," Thomas said, alluding to a late play when Smush Parker stole the ball and hit Kobe Bryant for the game-tying layup. "Boris and Steve called timeout, but we did not get the call," Thomas said of the play leading to the jump ball late in overtime. "It was the most difficult loss, by far, of my career." If the Suns come back to win the final three games of this series, it will be regarded as one of the best first round series in history.
Nash plays well in win but has two late turnovers
Steve Nash played an almost flawless game until the final moments in Sunday's overtime loss to the Lakers, finishing with 22 points, 11 assists and two turnovers.
Both of his turnovers came very late in the game and when he was tied up by Luke Walton, forcing a jump ball, the Lakers made the most of the mismatch. Nash is going to get the MVP, but it's going to be very controversial, especially since it looks like Kobe and the Lakers are going to eliminate Nash's Suns in the first round. The Lakers lead 3-1 as the series heads back to Phoenix for Game 5.
Smush plays great in final 10 seconds Sunday
Smush Parker struggled through most of Sunday's game, but hit a clutch three and then stole the ball in the final 10 seconds of regulation, helping to send the game to overtime where Kobe Bryant won it with his last-second heroics.
Parker was just 2-of-12 on the day for five points, but he did more than enough to make up for the bad day in the final 10 seconds of regulation.
