Yes the Heat won a title but look at them now, then take time to look at the Lakers and see who really won in the deal LOL The Heat won a title man. No matter how crappy their last season was, I think they are pretty happy about the way their deal turned out. They are not in a sim league where always building towards the future seems to be what matters. In the real life it's all about the championships and when the Heat won the 1st in franchise history, I think everything made sense no matter what happens afterwards. I agree completely. D, how can you say that the Heat lost in that deal when they won a title? The Lakers blew it big time in that trade, because in return, they got Lamar Odom, which he proved in the finals, that he's not a player to get you to the promise land, and Caron Butler, who the Lakers traded way too soon. The Heat got the most dominant player in the history of the NBA, and was able to get him at the productive tail-end in his career, and was able to squeak out a title. There is no team in the league that would trade a title for a future. It doesn't make sense. Look at the Celtics. You think they're now that they didn't get that top 2 pick?

If the Lakers would have won a guaranteed title this year by trading Bynum for Shaq I would have passed on the deal ten times out of ten. The Lakers are interested in dynasties. The teams who have never won anything are interested in one in lifetime championships. Its a completely different mindset.

Yeah but dynasties actually have to accomplish winning a title at least first, the Lakers had their best chance in a while to do it this year, and got destroyed by Boston. I agree with everyone else, regardless on how bad the Heat sucked this year, Shaq still got a title and Kobe didn't. About this video, it just goes to show what a hypocrite and egotistical idiot Shaq is. Yeah, I understand he thinks he's still amazing (which he isn't, he really sucks now, he was dominant back in the day, but now, he sucks), but why even make this video? First, he sucks at rapping, second, now ESPN is going to be covering this story for the next 10 years asking if Kobe and Shaq could co-exist as a marriage couple. You don't know how much I hated the summer of 2004 waking up to want to see whats going on in the sports news and seeing "Kobe not wanting to have Shaq's baby", its just ridiculous.
Not saying the Lakers won't be back to the Finals, they probably will, but the West is so incredibly tough right now there are 5-6 good teams right now (not even including the maturation of the Blazers, yada yada) that could win it out there. I'm not sure what a dynasty is anymore? You'd say either this decade's Spurs or Lakers. To me, I don't think the Spurs are a dynasty just because they haven't repeated, that's an essential quality to any dynasty, you have to repeat. I don't think the Lakers are a dynasty back in the day either, they were the best team in 2000 and 2001, but with all these allegations coming out about Game 6 of the Lakers-Kings WCF game, and from my memories of that entirely one sided refereed series, I believe the NBA helped the Lakers to the Finals that year. Just watch the recent youtube videos that have surfaced regarding that game and series. 27 FT's in the 4th quarter for LA is beyond me. I laughed at a lot of those calls in those videos.

If Kobe never wins another ring he wll have two more than the 40 year history of the Seattle Oklahoma City Supersonics and will retire as the second best shooting guard in league history.

I agree with everyone else, regardless on how bad the Heat sucked this year, Shaq still got a title and Kobe didn't. And with Bynum back next year as well as a full season of Pau Gasol they will have an even better chance. The point is some teams have never won a championship and a title means a lot more than them then a team that been home to several dynasties. I would take 3 titles and the Lakers as currently constructed for the next 5 years anyday over 4 titles and Kobe wasting his prime with a washed up 20 million dollar has been. Its amazing how much of a pass Shaq gets from the media. Every time he is traded he has to do throw everyone under the bus from his old team. Just a couple weeks ago he called up Stephen A Smith to give him some ass kissing quotes about Kobe. Hes about as phony as they come. The Lakers just breezed by the West in the playoffs without Bynum. Lets see Portland make the playoffs before we crown them as the next contenders. A threepeat is a dynasty period. Your personal belief in the testimony of a convicted felon can't change that.

I forgot Laker fans can never even slightly act objective.
I still don't believe that Spurs series would've been a "breeze" if that Barry foul was called, the Spurs, although they did lose the games, put up 20 and 17 point leads on L.A., the Lakers had to fight back hard and regain the lead, which they did, I would hardly call that and a tough Jazz series that also could've lasted longer "a breeze". The West is getting tougher each year, you can't expect teams like New Orleans, San Antonio, Dallas, Utah, and heck maybe even Phoenix to remain the same. I think all of those teams are going to get a lot better for next year. Yes, the Lakers will have Bynum back, I'm not saying he won't be an All-Star, but usually players have had a tough road to recovery after season ending knee injuries. That's shown throughout the history of the league. I never said Portland would be a contender, but that is a dynamite young squad, I think they may be the second coming of what New Orleans was this year, maybe not this year, but in a few years, Portland will be a very good team.
Shaq is the tool of tools. I agree with you. I only liked him when I was innocent and naive as a kid when he was in Orlando. His two-facedness and hypocrisy has been shown time and time again, why do people like players like that?
A convicted felon, you are right, but correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the FBI looking into this hardcore now? It ain't just Donaghey, its now Dick Bavetta, and on a larger scale, David Stern is now having to hide more lies and deceit and try to cover up for some of his crooked employees. The NBA is being dealt so many black eyes right now its not even funny. The Game 6 game was widely called by writers such as Michael Wilbon, David Dupree, Stephen A. Smith, hell, even L.A's own Bill Plaschke as the most one-sided or worst refereed game in NBA history. That game, and series, will forever be tainted by Stern's love for big market teams like L.A., and disrespect to smaller market, but more talented teams, such as the 2001-2002 Sacramento Kings, that team was better than the Lakers.

The Lakers went 12-3 in the playoffs against the West. They finished with the conference's best record despite missing a key player for half of the year. That's a breeze. The Suns, Mavs and Spurs are all going to get worse before they get better. Duncan Kidd, Nash, Shaq. OLD, OLD, OLD, OLD. The Jazz and Hornets are both young teams and should get better but I don't see an impact player in the form of Bynum in the wings. The last promising big man that I can remember coming back from a serious knee injury is Amare. It seems like he turned out ok. Because he jokes around with the media and they are the ones who form public opinion. You can bet your ass this would be an entirely different story if Ron Artest freestyled a line about being better than "white boys". The difference is if the FBI found something worth persecuting I would have no hesitation in believing it but if the FBI says the accusation are baseless we will still have to hear about illogical conspiracy theories from people such as yourself.

If you want to factor in Bynum's injury to the playoffs, factor in Manu's injury in those playoffs as well. He had a bum ankle the entire playoffs that he even admitted kicked into super pain gear once the Lakers series started. That combined with the Barry no-call that many analysts, writers, and ex-NBA players were "crying" about, could've made that a different series. As far as the "conspiracy theory", I believe there was in that series. Its not often you get ten-twelve of America's top sportswriters saying that game was refereed differently and that it was the worst one sided game in NBA history. Again, combine that with the allegations coming out, as well as the FBI determining that Donaghey wasn't lying about this (I read that in a report somewhere, don't have the link though), its baseless now, your right, but I think more facts will amount during this offseason, seeing the FBI is really investigating another NBA ref's history, that being Dick Bavetta. As far as the knee injuries, good point about Amare, I had forgotten about him. I was thinking more in the lines of Chris Webber, who was a top three PF in the early 2000's but when that knee injury hit him, he was just never the same.

No problem. Lets give the Spurs a healthy Manu and lets fix Kobe's finger, Fisher's foot and Bynum's knee. Looks like the Lakers win in 5 games again.

Sheriff cites language as reason for wanting Shaq's badges back Associated Press
PHOENIX -- Shaquille O'Neal will lose his special deputy's badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center's use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in January and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse earlier this month.
"I want his two badges back," Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they're fired. I don't condone this type of racial conduct."
Shaq was seen in a video posted on the celebrity news and gossip Web site TMZ.com rapping that "Kobe couldn't do without me." O'Neal skewers the Lakers' star, with whom he won three straight NBA titles from 2000-2002 while with Los Angeles, for not being able to win a championship without him.
"I was freestyling. That's all. It was all done in fun. Nothing serious whatsoever," O'Neal told ESPN.com Monday. A call to the Suns on Tuesday seeking comment from O'Neal was referred to his public relations firm, which didn't immediately respond.
Arpaio, who describes himself as "America's Toughest Sheriff" and is best known for feeding jail inmates green bologna, clothing them in pink underwear, and making them work on chain gangs, said he didn't expect his actions would teach Shaq a lesson. But he hoped he learns that as a role model who wants to someday be a full-time sheriff, he needs to know his words matter.
"Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I don't think that either conduct should be out there publicly, even if media wasn't there," Arpaio said.
O'Neal previously served as a reserve officer with the Miami Beach Police Department while playing for the Miami Heat. He also volunteered with the Tempe Police Department after being traded to the Suns in February.
