The Minnesota Timberwolves aren't holding onto O.J. Mayo for long.
Two league sources told ESPN.com that the Wolves have reached an agreement in principle with the Memphis Grizzlies that will send the draft rights of Mayo, Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker and Greg Buckner to the Grizzlies in return for the draft rights to Kevin Love, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal and Jason Collins.
The deal is a blockbuster for both teams. ESPN.com reported on Tuesday that the Wolves GM Kevin McHale was infatuated with Love, but felt that the team had to select Mayo and use him to acquire more assets.
In addition to landing Love, the Wolves get a sharp-shooting swingman in Miller who can help carry the scoring load from the perimeter. The deal is also a financial boon for the Timberwolves who get the bad contract of Jaric (three years, $21 million) off the books. Walker and Buckner's contracts are not guaranteed after this season.
The Grizzlies get the superstar they wanted in the backcourt in Mayo. The also rid themselves of Cardinal's bad contract (two years, $13 million). The Grizzlies now have a glut of guards on the team with Mayo, Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry and Javaris Crittendon.

This is not good for Love. He is going to be one of the most hated players by the home team in the league now. I hope they don't expect him to play center opposite Jefferson. Hes going to get killed.

Also while Kevin has been a model citizen at UCLA his Dad is a major attention whore douchebag. (He was a guest on a local radio station and criticized Ben Howland for not displaying all of Love's skills enough. Apparently Howland should have used Love more like Dirk Nowitzki instead of forcing him to play in the post where he lead the world in efficiency and won the PAC 10 Player of the Year Award) Don"t be surprised to see him make himself a story somewhere down the line.

This makes absolutely no sense for the Grizzlies, yet again they make a bonehead move.
Why trade away a guy who has the potential to be a solid PF in this league for a point guard who has scandals written all over him, when you already have a young up and coming point guard in Mike Conley Jr. Granted, Love isn't all that special, but he's not worth this. Mike Miller was the Grizzlies best player last year, and they trade him away for this. Whoevers working or pulling the deals in the Grizzlies FO should be terminated immediately. The Gasol trade was garbage enough, this trade shouldnt be further evidence someone must lose their job in that front office.

Mayo is not close to a PG...he's not cramping Conley's style

He's a slightly undersized 2...with good enough ball-handling to be mistaken for a 1.

One funny thing is that the teams exchange "bad contracts" - well, that really minimizes the benefit doesn't it?
I like this deal for the Wolves, but then again, I think most of the players they got have a real role in the NBA.
I think Kevin Love is going to surprise a whole lot of people - who essentially think he can't play at this level. I understand that people are unhappy he's not Kwame Brown, Darko Milicic or a huge upside guy like that. However, upside doesn't always pan out. It would've been great if he ended up on my 76ers.

i live in memphis....
it has been draftmas today...
i'm excited like a schoolgirl...
having listened to our GM talk, he sounds like Mayo is a PG in the NBA.....
there was a false alarm of trading conley to make this happen, but for now, this seems to be it...
i love chris wallace right now....
simply replacing pau with love would do nothing for this team....now we have some hope...
i still want to trade conley and put mayo at PG, but I don't think I should be demanding right now....
it is draftmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm loving this trade for Memphis. I'm excited about going to all the home games again this year....gives us some hope.
Like Zach said, Kevin Love would've done nothing to help this team out. This team needed to do a huge shakeup like this to get the city back behind the team, and it's working. Everyone is already talking about next season now and the possibilties for the future.
If they don't make any trades right now, you can't be upset with a future of Conley, Mayo, Gay and if reports are right Darrel Arther. I actually liked the Donte Green pick though, and would've liked him to stay though.

This seems actually a good trade for Memphis. I guess that for Chris Wallace to make a good trade, he needs to trade with McHale. McHale makes every hated GM look good. He's such a good guy. Last season he saved Danny Ainge job. Now he's doing the same to Chris Wallace. Props to McHale.
All the draft is good for is to give hope to the frachise. Love isn't getting all that love for some reason. Mayo has much more upside and he gives exactly what people look for in a draft: hope.

I just remembered the most important angle. This is double win for the Grizzlies season ticked holders. Not only the get the best player in the deal in Mayo but they also get Jaric. Getting Jaric is HUGE. It's even better than getting Tony Parker. I would love the chance of sitting next to Adriana Lima.

Too bad, I was looking forward to all the Gay-Love in Memphis. Now there's just Gay Mayo.
