cassell is a pretty decent qb, how could you not say that? I don't care who you are, or what team your on or how good it is; if you have that kind of year your first year playing you can't be that bad. I didn't say he was bad, but he isn't a franchise QB. I think his ceiling is probably that of an average starting QB in the NFL but he won't be carrying any team on his shoulders. He will need significant talent around him to succeed. He only ranked 37th last year in Air Yards, which is the number of yards that he threw for excluding run after the catch. Most of his value was derived from his teammate's ability to run after the catch. www.advancednflstats.com/2009/01/air-yards-2008.htmlThe Patriots passing game last year was only in the middle of the pack. footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamoffIt's ridiculous to compare Cutler to Cassel. Aside from the argument that one has real talent and the other has marginal talent. Cutler's only slated to make $1 million this year while Cassel is making $14.65 million. I will give Cassel credit for stepping in and not falling on his face, but at the same time he's been in that system for 3 years so I really shouldn't be too much of a surprise. However, I'm not ready to put Cassel anywhere near the same tier as the best QBs in the league.

cassel is making that much money because he had the franchise tag placed on him. Do you know what the franchise tag is? Its getting a one year deal meaning that your getting money placed as one of the top qb's for that season.
Cutler also had ridiculous talent around him. Is there a brandon marshall or eddie royal on the Bears? The bears only offense is Forte and I believe he was also the leading receiving in receptions on the team. So cutler is clearly going to a worse offense, lets see how good he really will be with that garbage offense. Main reason why Cutler had good numbers, not saying he is garbage, but their defense sucked so bad that they had to put up lots of points, so they passed the ball a ton more then normal.

I know Cassel got the franchise tag and his salary is a result of that. But that's the point his salary makes him a lot less valuable than a very cheap Jay Cutler. $1 million is chump change to professional sports teams. So how does anything you just wrote prove that Cassel is a good QB?

well if you want to look at it as the money aspect, cutler will be getting more then 14 mil total on the contract he already has, not like that disappears or anything. Plus two first round picks is highly valuable and I would rather have cassel for a 2nd round pick and taking on 14 mil then trading away two first round picks. All I am saying is that cutler isn't worth the two first round picks and cassel isn't that much worse if not the same as cutler talent wise, who went a lot cheaper.

Have to agree here. As a die-hard Bears fan I myself am not even that excited about his arrival. We have an aging offensive line. Devin Hester is our #1 WR ROFL its hard for me to even type that and yes Forte did lead the team in receptions last season. On top of all this a defense which wasn't that great last year lost its leader in Mike Brown. All in all I am expecting the Bears to miss the playoffs yet again.

Dang, a die hard Bears fan not excited about getting one of the top young franchise QBs in the game?? That's suprising. I think the WRs will be fine. Hester is getting better, Earl Bennett is a potentially good young WR (former Cutler teammate) and they got one of the up and coming top TEs in Olsen. Cutler will make them better and Forte will keep defenses even more honest after his great rookie season.

Eddie Royal is much better then hester, by a lot I say.

I'll give you that about the WRs, not the TE though but you can't tell me that the Bears passing game won't be substantially better with Cutler.

I don't see where this blind hatred of Cutler is coming from because the stats and the scouts all say this is guy is one of the league's best.

Scouts thought Ryan Leaf was one of the best, what happened to him? Shall I keep going? What about Kyle Boller? How about Alex Smith? I can keep going, don't make ignorant statements. Tom brady never had good wr's and won, Manning made harrison that good and wayne came later. Cutler only had good years with good receivers.

Lol, someone is making ignorant statements but it's not me. I said scouts AND stats. And not college stats but NFL stats. Tom Brady has had Randy Moss and a young Deion Branch. So Manning made Harrison that good huh? But Cutler didn't make Brandon Marshall or Eddie Royal that good? I don't even know why I bother trying to get through to you, after you made that asinine comment about Cassel being as good as Cutler. I guess I should never underestimate stupid.

How many super bowls has brady won with Randy Moss? Brady is one of the most consistent qb's especially before Moss even got there.
I guess only the next season will tell whether Cutler is this supreme stud that you think he is. Still isn't worth two first round picks and a third, I would rather have the picks.
