Taking Nominations now... THE HAPPIEST Laker is the one whose father was addicted to heroin, whose mother died of colon cancer when he was 12, who attended three high schools, had his first college scholarship revoked before the fall semester of his freshman year, became a subject of three college investigations, declared for the NBA draft, tried unsuccessfully to pull out of the draft, was picked by arguably the worst franchise in sports, violated the league's antidrug policy twice within eight months and after finally getting his life together, went home to New York City for an aunt's funeral and wound up burying his 6½-month-old son, then getting robbed at gunpoint.
"That's my book," says Lamar Odom. "That's my movie. It's a big bowl of gumbo." vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1153359/1/index.htmNot many players in their contract years with that kind of undeniable talent would voluntarily campaign to come off the bench to allow a big time young player to be in the starting lineup.

I don't think Lamar Odom is underappreciated at all. At least not by the Lakers.

If we can't afford him, we can't afford him. Has nothing to do with being unappreciated, it has to do with the cap. Pau, Kobe, and Bynum are our top 3 players, and they deserve the money they get. Odom unfortunantly the odd man out money wise, but thats because the cap not because the Lakers think he sucks.
My choice for undervalued is David Lee. The Knicks are willing to let him go, so they can have money to hopefully get Lebron and Bosh in 2010. Lee is a double double big, and any other team would had already extended his contract. If the Knicks don't sign Lebron and Bosh, they are going to kick themselves for letting Lee go for nothing

The Lakers are worth half a billion dollars. They can afford him.

LOL, the NBA has a salary cap. This isn't the MLB, so it doesn't matter if you have half a billion dollars. The Luxary tax is crazy in the NBA. We already have 3 max players, we couldn't keep half of our bench if we had 4. (Including Ariza)

But still, if Steinbrenner was the owner of the Lakers they'd have no problem keeping Odom

Yes but the salary cap structure in the NBA is much stricter. The Lakers could not sign odom to a max deal, and still be able to keep the team in tact. We have to resign Ariza, and Farmar next season

I dont think it will take a MAX offer to resign Odom. Most teams are holding their cap space for 2010 and even though I think Odom is underrated he is not the type of player that excels as a 1st or 2nd option. Any team with significant cap space is going to want to use it on a player more suited for that role.
We pretty much gave away Mihm and Radmonovich this year. They were nothing special, but they were solid rotation players and teams vying for a championship dont throw away players that can help a team win in the middle of the season. If those were not moves to allow management to make an honest effort to resign Ariza and Odom in the offseason I'm going to be pissed.

I think they wouldn't mind giving Lamar 10 mil, since Boozer is falling of teams radars. Trust me, I want Odom and Ariza both to stay

Odom actually might fit in very well in Detroit but I just can't see them paying him that much.

Odom won't get a 10 Mil starting contract. He didn't even get that when he was younger and signed his current contract.

I think Pau would be the more underappreciated player, without him they would not be as good. He is a great passer, makes FT's, makes jumpers, way underrated.
The NBA still sucks by the way.

Look at the list of SF's who got 10 mil starting contracts last season.................... If no teams bid then yes I would agree, but if teams are bidding, he will get it. It will be between Odom and Hedi Turk for the elite small forwards in FA
