I have no problem with this............................... It's his life, and his choice. Many kids drop out of highschool to work at Kenny's shoe store, so atleast this guy is going to a place to work on his craft, and get paid. And hopefully he will become good enough to earn a spot in the 2011 draft, or he can just continue to play overseas if the NBA doesn't want him. Either way, he will make more than most adults (with college degrees) make in 10 years, he will make in 2 years.
And whose to say he can't take internet courses to earn his diploma? The system is made for people to have every oppurtunity to graduate hs, regardless of your age or your finacial situation.

i would be curious to know what kind of grades he makes though. I wonder if this is solely to improve his craft or that he's dumb as a rock and failing school.

Either way, whats the harm? Go to school and continue to flunk (if thats the case) or go over seas, play against better talent, get better coaches, get paid and still get a GED or college course approved HS diploma.
I just don't see what the harm in this is. If someone wants him now, then whats the harm in him going?

i'm guessing you didn't read my other posts where I said he was doing the right thing. there is no harm IMO. nevertheless i'm still curious if he's doing this solely for basketball purposes or because he wouldn't graduate or have the scores to get into college. The reason that matters is because he'll be setting a precedent for future players so it could make a difference to those players when they're debating whether or not to follow in his footsteps.

looks like the kid has the grades to play ball in college but why go there if your not going to stay and get an education.....I think NBA and Ncaa really missed out on not making it a 2 and done rule but I really don't agree with a 18 year old kid not being able to make money by playing basketball when u have 12 year old playing pro golf, tennis etc you can fight in wars but you can't play pro ball what a fucking joke....if they don't change the rule you will see more kids going over seas to play....a college degree cost you about 45k a year but you can make at least 100k playing ball doesn't take a genius to figure what to do here!!

Didn't this guy learn anything from Brandon Jennings? I don't get it, but honestly he's probably not going to learn anything his senior year of HS so from an education stand point it's not a huge loss just that he won't graduate.
This is more of a problem with the NBA, why do they force these kids to go to college for a year? So the NCAA can make more money? They're not going to learn anything in one year and having one year of college basketball isn't going to prepare them any better for the pros.

jennings is still projected as a top pick so I dont think it hurt his stock any and he's probably improved his game playing against professionals

yeah I think playing over seas may be better than playing in college for a year at least you can see where you stand when your playing against grown men

Main reason I don't like it is because the precedent it will set. Its the easy way out, its basically telling young athletes that education is unimportant, and it won't stop here, you might see younger that this good start going over there because they won't be good in the classroom, or will stop trying as hard in the classroom and workout more trying to go overseas. Of course I might be biased and am a huge supporter of education being the turning point in america to make a smarter future for this country. This is just going to perpetuate the cycle of athletes getting too much money and entertainment in America and not make America great as a country.

But saying that....................... in the US who makes the money? Athletes & Entertainers............... So he has a chance to join the most desired work field in the world, regardless of age, why wouldn't he?
And again, who says he can't finish highschool with tutoring or Online courses? Whats the difference from kids who study abroad? If he choses to take classes, then whats the difference?

Do you really think he is going to choose to take classes? Be real guy, as soon as he gets the money he is going to think he is a baller and most likely blow it,lol. How many mature 17 year old's do you know? They get that kind of money and think there the shit and will waste it, but its his money so who gives a shit. I just think this will start younger and younger players to try and do this. And say fuck school.

Wake up man. Most likely NBA lottery picks already don't give a shit about school.

Not saying that is right either, I didn't see the point in waiting a year. I think if anything they should have to wait 3 years. Would make college better, educate them more, and make the NBA better having proven players on high intensity programs.
