No, the rule is, the Nats can re-draft him only if that player will negotiate with that team. So, the player has the right to choose before the draft, if he doesn't, then obviously they won't draft him, but if Strasburg doesn't mind negotiating again with the Nats, then he still could go there.
Funny I was reading a very promising scenario. Nats don't sign strasburg this year, Mariners don't sign Ackley this year, both go back in the pool. Nats take Bryce number one overall, most likely a player won't want to negotiate with the team that couldn't sign him the year before, so Nats take someone else besides Strasburg. M's get to pick third because of Ackley not signing, guess who falls into the lap of the Mariners? Strasburg, but again we have to deal with fuckhead Boras, so we may not sign him, but I have been reading this could be a very possible option.
Ackley has been asked to take a physical in the last two days, so there is the chance the M's sign him still. He wasn't around 8 mil I think, what ever Texiera got.

Yeah KJR radio has the M's inking Ackley before the deadline.
We'll find out by 9 p.m. today, or sooner, if Dustin Ackley is going to be a Mariner. I'm saying yes. The reports that he's been asked by the Mariners to undergo a physical are encouraging, but it's my understanding that Ackley is not in Seattle at the moment. Obviously, the Mariners' doctors would be the ones to examine him. (Update: I just talked to a prominent agent who has had first-round picks, and he told me that this is not necessarily true. It's possible that the Mariners would allow a respected doctor, like Dr. Lewis Yocum from the renowned Jobe-Kerlan clinic, check out Ackley, at representative Scott Boras's behest. That would jibe with the recent KJR report by Jason Puckett that Ackley has taken a physical in Southern California -- where Boras's offices are located. The agent said it's also common for top draft picks to sign without undergoing physical exams, with the deal contingent upon him taking and passing a physical

Nice, I like the kid, he can potentially play quite a bit of positions. I heard there is talks he could play 2b possibly. I think we just need to get him developed and up to the big leagues soon. This kid is going to be nasty I think, ridiculous bat control.

Its not the kid, do you really think these kids care about a couple of million when they are this young, they just want to play and those millions are plenty good enough before ever even pitching for an organization. Its the damn agents that make these long stretched out holdouts for players. Same thing happening with Crabtree for the niners. About the only thing I do like about the NBA is the rookie structure they have. You should have to earn that big pay check before getting it. Bullshit to sign rookies for that much money and they haven't even won a game or done anything for the team. People are worth what businesses are willing to pay them. If you were the greatest burger flipper of all time at McDonald's and getting paid like it would you expect that to be taken into account when you applied to Burger King despite the fact that you haven't flipped a burger for Burger King yet or haven't done anything to help them make money.

How much money would he be getting right now if was born in Japan or Cuba instead of the United States? The Yankees or Red Sox would be thrilled to have him so cheaply.

the real question is, does anybody give a fuck about the MLB, furthermore, i bet if you took a poll that a vast majority of the public wouldnt even know there is a team in DC.

22 million for a guy who never played a game against top competition? As a fan? Sure he looks very promissing but I wouldn't do it if it was my money. Especially considering how fragile pitchers are. All you have to do is look at the success (or lack of it) from the previous record beatter (Mark Prior).

Look at what AJ brunett or other scurbs are making and tell me hes not wroth 20mill.

That's true, but the amount of money that you will lose from disenfranchised fans if you fail to sign your #1 pick for the 2nd year in a row could be close to 22 million anyway. Combine that with the merchandising revenue and increased ticket sales during his starts - and it's a good business decision to give the guy what he wants.

Ackley signed for 9.5. I hope he turns into a stud, about time my team takes some damn good hitters in drafts.
