anyone here ever used it?
I am thinking of doing it. I am running a half-marathon Saturday, I run a good bit but my knee is starting to really bother me and I don't wanna have another surgery on it, so thinking of giving the long runs a rest for a while. I have heard a ton of good shit about it, but in general I just always thought it was a scam, but I have had a few friends suggest it and my routine at the gym is just not getting it done. I think mostly b/c I am a lazy bastard and don't put out hard enough, but I am not gonna pay $40/hr to a trainer to yell at me.
Wondering if anyone has done it and if so what is y'alls opinion on doing it with bands Vs. free weight. Also, and this is a question for anyone who has worked out at home, I am worried that my ass (225lbs) will pull a fucking door frame down using an at home pull up bar, anyone had trouble with this?

Done it for a few weeks. I would say free weights are better. Use two sets of free weights and when you buy them, don't think all cocky and you need to heavy sets, cause you won't be able to do the exercises if you do that.
It is about an hour long workout and a lot of it is just a ton of reps of different exercises. You need a pull up bar as well. But mostly you are doing a bunch of different push-ups, curls, pull ups and stretching. It's also important to eat right, which I go to the gym probably 5 days a week now, but I am to the point where diet is going to ultimately help me get to the point where I want. I am however going for a more cut phsique, but in general I would say p90x is solid and you will be in good shape afterwards. Definitely leaves you sore every day, but I find that I work out more if I have a gym membership and make myself go vs working out at home consistently. Works for some though, but if you put yourself into it, it works well.
The guy on there is kind of a tool though, lol. He sometimes gets annoying but after you figure out the exercises, you can just use an ipod which is what I did.

Yeah I have heard he is a douche. Def gonna keep my regular gym membership since it's through the university and cheap.
Yeah I am not a super muscle head. I may start with bands bc I got access to some and then get some bells when I get a feel for it.

Just get 12's and 20's for bells and the iron gym pull up bar is only 30 bucks, plus is good for the push ups.

Did the full P90X about two years ago as the capper of a weight loss year - I lost 85-90 lbs.
I definitely think it works. It's not the most efficient way to work out, simply because as Slough said, you'll spend at least an hour (or more) a day 6 days a week. But you will absolutely lose fat and gain muscle. The plyometrics workout is a beast, and the yoga was surprisingly difficult. The ab ripper you are supposed to do every other session will kick your ass.
I made huge improvements over the 90 days. It definitely put me in the best shape of my life. I would advise you to use dumbbells. I used bands at first but broke one doing one of the exercises - I also didn't feel the same impact with the bands as I did with the frees. I ended up using 20s and 30s and it was a hell of a workout. I also got some weighted gloves to use with the kenpo punch workouts to improve the burn.
Eat well in addition to doing the workout and you will really see results.

I know this is an old old thread but been doing P90x on and off for a bit now, just recently really got dedicated to doing it full time. I'm doing a Paleo diet along with it since I don't have the books. What kind of diet is suggested by the P90x people? Also what kind of pullup bar setup did you guys use? I was think of using bands instead of the bar, but also not sure where to anchor the bands.

I used a pullup bar I got off ebay, the door frame kind. It worked well enough. I did it off and on for a while. Good workout, a little long, but like Peter said, will certainly get you in shape if you can stick to it.
I found the diet kind of strange and hard to stick to, and on the P90x end they are just trying to sell you some of their branded shakes and after workout bars, etc. Not that I blame them, but you can get the same for a lot less. I have actually been using a mix called "mike's mix" as a substitute for their post workout stuff, and its tasty enough and a hell of a lot cheaper. You can only order it online. I like that it dissolves easily enough in water and doesn't make me shit green.

Well, if you are going Paleo, you need to basically think of everything as things you can make and cook as if you were essentially a Native American. Pretty much everything is just grilled or baked. Not a lot of sauce, some seasonings, pretty basic on everything. Nuts, fruits, meats, salads in a simple form. You can have red meat, but keep it to a once of week thing. Not trying to sell you, but my company sells Chia Seeds, which is huge in fiber and protein and acts as snack replacement, plus has no taste to put in anything. Pm me your address and I would send a sample. Chosenfoods.com Check it out. That goes for anybody if they wanted a sample, we sell Avocado oil as well for a new super food high heat cooking oil. t-minus 30 minutes until Sativa and Boom ask where their samples are. Haha, my bad guys, next week for sure

where the fuck is my sample? I demands it now.
I did end up getting some chia seeds off amazon. Starting using them, but haven't lately because they got hidden in my pantry and I forgot about them. Bought some coconut oil to make popcorn with and cooked some fish with it tonight. I like the flavor it adds. Probably try it with some other stuff. Also got some hemp seed oil. Everything I read about that has been great. Has a slight nutty taste (i know how it sounds). Don't think you're supposed to cook with it. I just take a spoonful, but haven't done long enough to say any noticeable differences.
