It begins next Friday, December 9, although plenty of speculation is already going on. My Pacers allegedly like Memphis' Marc Gasol a lot and have him ranked as their #1 target. I'd expect them to make a huge offer to him. Here's what I've written on it. I know there are a lot of Grizzlies fans here (and not much Grizzlies talk online... their boards are all near death): According to Sham Sports, the Grizzlies have a ton of money tied up into just two players, Zach Randolph and Rudy Gay: 2011-2012: $30,232,144 2012-2013: $32,960,538 2013-2014: $35,688,932 2014-2015: $35,817,326 They also have an average starting point guard, Mike Conley, making between $6.6M and $8.7M during that same span. Can the Grizzlies really afford to pay Marc a max, or near-max, contract? They'd be over $50M in salary for the next four seasons with just those four players. Throw in another 10 players to fill out the roster, making, say, an average of $2-3M each, and we're looking at around $80M+ in salaries. That's a hell of a lot of money for any team, let alone the NBA's second smallest market, with a non-multi-billionaire owner. I suppose it depends on much Heisley wants to win.

ESPNSteinLine Marc SteinRevenge of Heisley continues. Hearing nothing but pessimism from teams after Marc Gasol. Consensus: RFA MGasol's return to Grizz = formality I say we (Pacers) throw a max contract at him just to be assholes.

Fuck the "league for people who can't dribble and know the rules so well." Go Sonics, Go NCAA.
NCAA = REAL Basketball

The Sim League One Sonics are as dead as the real-life Sonics. Once I left, and my championship pedigree left with me, both teams went to hell.
How you like them Oklahoma City Thunder? Now THAT'S a basketball team, and OKC is a city that knows how to make them feel loved and appreciated, unlike a certain other ex-NBA city.

You are high, I am the Sonics in Slor and just won back to back titles, don't know what this Thunder thing is. Is that like Marshall or something, like the Thundering Herd?

Not sure as to how I feel concerning the Spurs and if they should amnesty Jefferson.
I will never forgive him for disappearing in the playoffs and getting outplayed by Sam Young. That is inexcusable.
But at the same time he shot 44 percent from outside, played better this past year overall, and in a shortened season that depends more on continuity, the Spurs would probably be better keeping him at this point.
However, if they were able to sign a Shane Battier or a Caron Butler, I would be all for it. I have never been impressed with RJ's defense, while there are some quality SF's out there that don't have to be big-time scorers to still be effective in a defensive-first system like the Spurs want to have.

marc will remain a grizz. we just had a great season and marc was a key to that. if rudy wasn't hurt there's no telling how far we could have gone. there's a lot of people that think heisley and the grizz are cheap, but only because they don't know what the hell they're talking about. during our first playoff runs we had one of the highest payrolls in the league. heisley is more a business man than a marc cuban type owner, but he is willing to spend money. the only time heisley was "cheap" was when we had a lotto caliber team and it made no sense to spend money since we would have still sucked.

I wasn't too thrilled over peddling $14M+ per-season on a career 13/8 guy, although Gasol's playoff performance last year was fairly impressive (granted his stats were inflated due to playing huge minutes).
Still, if rumors are to be believed, the Pacers may be the ones who decide Marc's next contract since there's a good chance we'll be the highest bidders in RFA.
If Heisley is so committed to winning that he's willing to match a max, or near-max, deal for Gasol, and have a future payroll in $80M~ territory, then good for him.

Well, there are some other post players out there, so Indy and others might go after them first since they are not RFAs, and will not have Indy holding the bag with a cap hold. Not sure how a shortened off season will affect the bidding process.

I believe teams have three-days to match this shortened offseason.

Stern just did his best to further damage the nba.
Ridiculous. He now decides to nix a trade of a superstar to a large market team? Would he prefer the hornets lose Paul outright for nothing next season? How's that better for them?

Pretty horrible.

I'm saying its horrible it got veto'd because I don't think the Hornets would have made the playoffs without the trade.
