Yeah, Beno seems like a no-brainer to me. I mean Calathes is still out 20 games so who is gonna play off the bench?

And I would think at this point with our success and talent we would be able to attract decent FAs for once.

haven't watched every minute of the grizz summer league game. Just bits and pieces, but Jordan Adams is looking good from what i've seen

Bosh waiting on LeBron, Melo waiting on Bosh, LeBron waiting on what both may do...
So. Much. Stalling.

Yeah, sure lebron, take your time. No rush. Ugh This dick really took a vacation mid-FA to "not draw attention" to himself. He hasn't even begun the process of meeting other teams yet. This could be a while.

The way I understood zach lowe's article today the only way the heat can use the mle is if they started and stayed over the cap.
That is to say they couldn't sign melo instead of bosh and still use the mle on McBob.
So it is nearly assured all 3 are staying in Miami. Only way they could give McBob the mle.

Only way they could give McBob the mle. don't think so. each player has a cap hold, meaning miami is currently constructively over the cap, allowing them to use the mle. if they leave, the cap hold fades, and miami has cap to spend. not sure the mechanics after that -- the mle and lle deals might be converted into straightforward uses of cap space, or the heat might be free to use their cap. that's been my understanding and i think it's what lowe implies in fn 2.

btw, not sure i understand the sense of entitlement teams and fans feel about players deciding where to go. lebron's coming off a 100 game season and deciding where to spend the next portion of his career, where his family will be, etc. he's incredibly wealthy and decided to take a vacation after an 8 month season. there are also a ton of unresolved variables -- his relationship with gilbert, which FAs miami could attract, where melo, gasol, potentially love, etc. ended up. what's the issue with him being a free agent for potentially two weeks? lol

Understood.
But that's what I was implying. They can't renounce or lose bosh (thus opening up cap space) and then sign melo and still be able to sign McBob to mle. As a report today speculated they may prefer melo to bosh.
They can't use cap space and the mle.
They could lose bosh and sign McBob to that same contract using cp instead of mle. But they won't.
So in essence they wouldn't sign McBob to mle unless it is assured all 3 are returning.
Only hope is really lebron leaves, bosh leaves, dwade stays and they are forced to convert McBob to cap space and them go sign someone like deng with rest of cap.
In other words all 3 are returning to heat.

We know their salaries. That would feel weird in everyday work. The reason fans want lebron to hurry up and decide is the entire free agency period is basically waiting for him to do something. As a fan of a team like rockets or Mavs or lakers or suns or Knicks, basically the entire offseason roster building period is waiting on lebron.

It's just a matter of whether they use the actual exception or just give the player a contract equalling that amount but not using the exception. Now if they intentionally choose to do it as an exception signing, then they self-invoke the apron. But as I read the CBA, they could formulate it differently to avoid that depending on the timing and amount of their re-signings.
