GoT has always been about moving chess pieces. I think it's better watched if you binge watch it. I can only dream it will do that. And part of me has wanted to just wait until the end of the season. But like the last episode, it's all over the Net, so it would be hard to avoid. Plus, I can't help myself to watch a new episode. Yes, last episode was dope. But I'm so used to the show being all about building up to a moment, that the season hasn't been any more or less better than the last. A very good show, but will never top the shield or breaking bad as my favorite of all time. The payoffs are great, but you invest a lot of viewing time for moments like the last episode. I dont 100% agree with what you are saying. I think this season and season 2 have been all about payoffs, although I think we are about see four episodes of payoff(the last two and the next two), which is pretty crazy when you consider. Last season Joffrey's death and everything following was fantastic. Season three everything was fantastic, and of course any payoff(the Red Wedding) was amazing. But The Climb(Episode 6 of Season 3) is one of my favorites, and everything involving Jaimie was fantastic. I can't put this over Breaking Bad or The Shield either at this point, but if what we saw Sunday night is any preview of what the final two(or three) seasons will be like, I think it can. Sunday night's episode might be my favorite episode of television of all time, just given how much build up to each of the storylines paid off fantastically... finally getting to see the Wights/White Walkers in action, finally seeing Arya starting to become a badass... finally seeing the East(Dany) and the West(Tyrion) coming together... It was great. And of course, the action, something the series never fails to do well, was amazing. Fair points. I gave up on ever seeing any significant action from the white walkers until a season or two down the line. Last episode was a nice treat. I think the Blackwater is still my favorite episode of this series, followed by the Red Wedding. But this was an amazing episode. This scene was definitely chilling:

This scene was definitely chilling: The reason I think I like this episode better than the one's you mentioned is for a few reasons: 1) As mentioned, the quiet pointing to all other story lines being relatively pointless was really neat to me. I'm still invested in them for sure, but in the grand scheme of things they really don't mean anything. 2) The action was great, but so was the smaller stuff. Its not like Game of Thrones does the small stuff great most of the times, but seeing Dany and Tyrion sit down and talk was delicious. Both seens involving them were great, absolutely fantastic. 3) The late in the 8th episode, typically set up episode, surprise still is amazing to me. 4) Most of all to me, without even speaking a word of dialogue, the guy at the end is by far the best villain of the series, even more than Joffrey. He sat above, watched, came down at the end of the battle and slammed the fucking ball in Jon's face and said "Whose your fucking daddy?". Awesome. Plus the fact that he has somewhat of a personality speaks that there are bigger motivations than "i'm evil and here to kill everyone and make them my puppet". Which is awesome.

That sit down between Dany and Tyrion was awesome for sure. As someone who is up to date on the books I am more excited now about the show than I have ever been.
Also, seems liken now that they have shed themselves of Martin they are really gonna spread their wings and take the show to some interesting places without having his "shackles" on them.

Well sort of, they are still following his master plan according to what people have said. They are taking events from the books, aka Hardhome which did happen in the books just not "on screen" but only information about it is through letters, and expanding upon them. Which is really cool. Also doing their own thing, but Martin has told them what happens in the next two books and largely they've said they are going to do that, although with their own twists of course, as they've done thus far. I'm excited, I was getting a bit down on the show with the recent stuff, but that Wight attack really has me pumped.

I have read that about Martin telling them what is going to happen, but not really sure I believe he even knows what will happen. He seems kind of full of shit at times...

Im in shock. Might wake up tomorrow in denial.... maybe it was just a dream. You and me both bro. I didn't quite catch the beginning of it, so I DVR'd it and watched it on about a fifteen minute delay. When they showed that sign at the end, I froze and paused it and sat there staring at the screen for about twenty minutes before I finally pressed play again, because I knew what was about to happen.

I knew going in that it was going to be a crazy episode and it started off fast and unexpected. Towards the end I was kind of disappointed in the Cersei situation (obviously kinda not ) because it was a very long scene and I was hoping that wasn't how they planned on ending the season.... Oh was I mistaken!

Fucking hell. Kit Harrington and Dan Weiss say Kitt isn't coming back for season 6, so there is that. Although there is always the possibility of just not giving their hand away and trying to make the shock of him coming back that much bigger, but still.

**************HUGE SEASON FINALE SPOILER BELOW*******************Fucking hell. Kit Harrington and Dan Weiss say Kitt isn't coming back for season 6, so there is that. Although there is always the possibility of just not giving their hand away and trying to make the shock of him coming back that much bigger, but still. Maybe I'm just in denial, but here's the way I look at it. Ultimately, they're biggest motivation is to keep the plot a secret under any and all circumstances. So when someone straight up asks them if Jon is dead, they have three options. They can tell the truth and give away the plot, they can straight up lie, or they can smile slyly and say "I guess we'll just have to wait and see, won't we!" If they want you to believe Jon is down for the count when in fact he comes back, the best way by far to throw people off the scent trail is just to lie through their teeth about it. My prediction is that Melisandre performs some sort of Lord of the Light magic on him, and brings him back from the dead. It has happened before in Game of Thrones with that guy (I forget his name) with the fiery sword that has a trial by combat with The Hound in that cave. I mean Melisandre just kind of randomly shows up at The Wall and then we don't see her again for the remainder of the episode. What would be the point of her coming there at all if not for that?
