Anyone in SLOR have one? The new details about the all-electric F-150 are interesting: www.theverge.com/2021/5/19/22442777/ford-f-150-lightning-electric-truck-specs-priceI have been following the Rivian development for a while, and I they are in some sort of relationship with Ford, so I think having a fuck-ton of F150s made will ultimately help with Rivian making a better product. Pretty sure my next vehicle will be an all-electric. My daily commute is less than 2 miles and my weekend excursions are ~25 miles from my house. Would always have a traditional car as well, just b/c I don't want to be stuck in a natural disaster with a dead-ass electric vehicle. But certainly a daily driver for me could easily be electric.

Australia are miles away from full electric cars, I see a couple of Tesla’s around but it’s pretty rare. Don’t even think we have any charging stations

You need to get out more. We have quite a few, even in places like Mississippi. For example, on campus there are free charging/parking spots that are open pretty frequently. At the Memphis airport there are always a bunch of free parking/charging spots open when I park in long-term parking. The problem becomes in rural areas where you might be a couple hundred miles from charging stations.

Very true, if fossil fuels are used to generate the electricity it kind of defeats the purpose. My interest in electric cars is not only for perceived environmental benefit, but I just think are much more convenient that conventional engines. Also, glad that Ford and others are looking at bringing cheaper options to the market. At this point I am probably 2-3 years from getting a 'new' vehicle, and my other favorite at this point is the new Bronco lol. Also curious to see what the new 4Runner looks like. Hope they don't ruin that.

I have a Model 3. Although I live in the North Bay of California, which is pretty close to where the Tesla Offices are/were so there are a lot of chargers. You can also 'trickle' charge in any standard outlet. I love love love having an electric car. No more stinky fucking gas stations. 90% of my trips don't require any special considerations but occasionally I need to make sure my car is topped off before I go somewhere. If I was to drive down to Disneyland or something I'd need to stop for ~40 minutes to charge along the way. But if I'm driving for hours and hours I'm going to want to stop somewhere to eat some food and stretch my legs anyway. At the very worst I sit and watch Netflix on the screen.
I've estimated that if I drive my car for 10 years I'll save between 10k and 15k in gas and maintenance. Since there are far fewer moving parts in an electric car there is a lot less stuff that can break. No oil changes is awesome-balls.
I'm not a car person and never have been. I get why to some people an ICE car is a big deal. Some people also like driving stick shift cars. I'm a computer and gadget person so the Tesla is perfect for me.
It's true that EVs aren't "good" for the environment. Nothing humans do is good for the environment ultimately. They are in fact "better" for the environment and are sustainable into the future, assuming the tech continues to advance (battery tech specifically). ICE cars are literally unsustainable. Some kind of EV or non ICE cars are not perfect. They're not free in the sense of natural or even human exploitation, but they're better than ICE cars in both cases and the tech will continue to improve in that direction.

Most green option is a transit system. Houston is getting a bullet train that will go to Dallas by 2025. Hoping that's the first domino but there are lawsuits against it (sigh). www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/texas-central-signs-1-6-billion-electrical-contract-for-dallas-to-houston-bullet-train/2622185/

I've been thinking about upgrading to a Tesla Model 3 myself. Currently I have a 2007 Honda Civic with 128k miles on it. I'm torn between trying to ride it into the ground (being I have no car payment on it), or trying to upgrade to something nicer being I'm in a different phase of my life from when I got it in 2013. I just feel like I'm still in high school when I drive it sometimes since it's a coupe, and although I upgraded the navigation system and speakers a few years ago, some of the interior features still seem outdated.
I'm just concerned about Tesla being zoned in on microtransactions and trying to nickel and dime their customers for years to come. As well as the price continuing to rise over time.

Same, i am in a 2011 Toyota FJ. It's got 120k miles. It will likely run forever. I may just keep it forever, though the current prices for them (more than I paid 5 years ago) makes me want to sell it. But yeah...not having a car payment is nice. I could definitely see myself going the route of never having one again and doing the 'Dave Ramsey-style' of car ownership. (EDITORS NOTE: not an endorsement of Dave Ramsey lifestyle LOL)
