There's a new offense in Memphis... From the Boston Globe...
There was a lot of talk about Mike Miller in the Celtics' locker room last night. Miller has excelled under the fast-paced style implemented by Grizzlies interim coach Tony Barone. In three games under Barone entering last night, Miller averaged 30.7 points and shot 23 of 34 from 3-point range. He set a franchise record with nine 3-pointers in the Grizzlies' 144-135 victory over Warriors Wednesday.
He had 24 points (2 for 10 on 3-pointers) in the Grizzlies' 128-119 loss to the Celtics last night.
Rivers and assistant Dave Wohl shared a laugh about the days when they coached Miller with the Magic.
"He's always been a great shooter and, I think, a hell of a player, but a reluctant shooter," said Rivers. "Dave was talking about the practice we had where every time he didn't take an open shot, I made the team run and him stand next to me. We did that for about three days in a row and he got the message that if you've got a cannon, use it.
"Watching him play the last few games on film, I was laughing because that's what I was talking about."
Miller has also benefited from the return of Pau Gasol (broken left foot), who draws the defense's attention and makes it easier to get open. Gasol also had 24 points.
