but rap done by rock bands still has rock beats and rock instruments in it. Rap done by rappers is all just synthesized music in the background, and these days usually has some chick in the chorus trying to make it a catchy single. I can understand not liking rap unless its done by a rock group. The sound of rap along with the instruments of rock is a much different sound as a whole than a rapper rapping over a synthesized beat. thats exactly what i meant, thanks stork. See, a lot of beeps and stuff along with guys rappin isnt technically music, in my opinion. With guitars and a drum beat and u have some mix of rap, i can live with that

I know you're not trying to say groups like Linkin Park don't use any synthesized beats. Yes, they use instruments as well, but you can't knock one person for using it and praise another for using it. It doesn't matter if most rap only uses beats and no instruments. How can you talk about the choruses in rap songs? It seems like 90% of today's rock songs are 70% them singing the choruses over and over again. Post the lyrics to some of today's rock songs. I want to see how great they are.

I couldn't disagree more. That might be true for rock music, but definately doesn't apply to music as a whole.

Of course most rap would suck with a heavy lead guitar (maybe...interesting idea) and I like rock more than rap (although I don't hate rap as some people here do) so I think that music with guitars and drums is better.

Like I said, post the lyrics to these current rock songs. Real rappers, not the stuff on MTV, have lyrics far more advanced than those of a rock song. Saying all they do is talk fast is like saying all alot of rockers do is yell, and that's a load of crap. So what if a rapper can't play the guitar. Can a guitarist work a turntable? And if anyone seriously tries to say that a turntable isn't a musical instrument then they are completely ignorant and don't know shit about shit. Because if someone says all they're doing is scratching a record, then all a gutarist is doing is plucking some strings and all a drummer is doing is banging sticks on a surface. It doesn't matter if you don't think it sounds like music, because it is music, and some people don't like listening to guitars or drums in the same manner. Some of you need to realize that art has no boundaries and just because you can't see it, doesn't make it less true. Ever wonder why rappers have been more succesful doing crossover rock songs than rockers doing rap songs? Because rappers are lyricists. Any rocker that tried to rap fell flat on their face (this doesn't apply to rock groups that have incorporated rap into their music, I'm talking about straight rockers).

I know, rap is hard and art and all that. I just don't appreciate it as much as some people do. As for rock songs and lyrics I don't listen to any of the popular rock bands right now. But alkaline trio has some pretty damn good lyrics, in my opinion. here's a site with a bunch of their lyrics: www.softcom.net/users/twolter/alkalinetrio.htmlsome of my favorites are under damnit - clavicle and my little needle and trouble breathing. Lots of great songs by them, better with the music of course (I'd suggest downloading them) another great band with great lyrics is brand new, they've been on MTV a couple times but are by no means mainstream. here's a site with their lyrics on it: www.elyrics.net/songs/b/Brand_Newsome of my favorite songs by them are sic gloria transit...glory fades and seventy times 7. here's their official website : www.brandnewrock.com/index.php?movieLoad=4if you click on the see/hear link at the top you can hear a few of their songs. A real catchy one is "jude law and a semester abroad. " The song that's been on MTV is "the quiet things that no one ever knows" basically every brand new song is either awesome lyrically, musically, or both. If any of you guys take the time to listen to some of the brand new songs I'd like to know what you think. This doesn't apply to those that like rap because all you're going to say is "wtf is this fast beat and guitar shit, I can barely even understand what they're saying" I'm not trying to convert anyone into liking rock based on these songs, just wondering what those of you that already like rock think about them.

They sound pretty good. Do you listen to Sum 41? I know they're more mainstream, but have similar music.
I like Live, too. I got Throwing Copper, that's a real good album. They haven't had as much publicity since then, still putting out albums, though.

Again, the links have to be copy and pasted into your browser, you can't just click on them. Does anybody listen to Bloodhound Gang? They haven't done anything in a while, but I still listen to Hooray for Boobies. They're one of the few bands that have a good balance of humor and rock in their music. If anyone doesn't know who they are, they did the Discovery Channel song a few years ago... "you and me baby ain't nothing but mammals, so let's do it like they do on the discovery channel..." www.angelfire.com/ut2/sativa/13_Hell_Yeah.mp3Hybrid's pretty good if you like electronic music. I found out about them from when they were on the SSX soundtrack. They have some good stuff. I'll have to post one of their songs later, I don't have the space at the moment to put one up now. I don't know how many have seen the movie Garden State, but since they started running the trailers, I've been listening to Let Go by Frou Frou alot. www.angelfire.com/ut2/sativa/01_Let_Go.mp3I'm sure Suns GM has already heard this one, but I just heard Breathe by Fabolous the other day, been playing that alot too. The piano beat reminds me of something, but I can't remember what. www.angelfire.com/ut2/sativa/01_Breathe.mp3I'm not saying any of these are the greatest songs, they're just some stuff I'm listening to at the moment.
