I don't know about what the Hawks have planned for him but in X he will be the face of the Nuggets real soon.

I believe he and coach Byron Scott don't get along at all. Appearantly JR's got a bit of an attitude, but hes only 19/20 so he'll probably eventually grow out of it. He's got potential all-star basketball ability imo.

ye ask, ye shall receive...
From the New Orleans Times-Picayune yesterday...
J.R. Smith was listed as inactive for the first time this year Tuesday after the team informed him of a possible trade.
Asked if he thinks he'll be a Hornet on Friday, Smith said, "After right now, I couldn't say I would be, because I haven't played in so long and being inactive today... It sends mixed messages. If they feel I can't help the team, I guess it is best for me to go elsewhere. But if it was up to me, I wouldn't, because I grew up with this team and I know everybody pretty well. But it's not up to me." The second-year player has little chance of reclaiming his job from Kirk Snyder this season.

He's got potential all-star basketball ability imo. you're completely right. a lot of it though has to do with smith's lackluster work ethic. scott has complained more than once that smith just doesn't practice hard and that's a big reason why kirk snyder stole the starting shooting guard spot from smith and hasn't given it up. not sure if smith will ever learn, but it looks like it may not be with the hornets.

From the Oklahoman...
Hornets coach Byron Scott said the real reason J.R. Smith was placed on the inactive list Tuesday was because he was tardy to a practice earlier in the week.
"The real reason was that he showed up with five minutes left in practice Monday," said Scott. "He came in and sat down and didn’t come to me and tell me why. I didn’t think he deserved to dress." The second-year player didn't bring a sports jacket so he was forced to watch the game in the team's locker room. Smith was on the active roster yesterday, but did not play. He expects to be traded sometime today as well. "I expected to have a big year. It just hasn’t been happening. As of now, I would suspect they would move me."

guys, this just gets better. From the Oklahoman today...
J.R. Smith and Byron Scott don't like each other, and haven't spoken in weeks. Now Scott's calling the young swingman a liar.
"I approached him numerous times," Smith said of Scott. "It's just no communication." "He's lying," Scott said. "Let's get that straight right now. I've sat down with J.R. on numerous occasions and told him what he needed to do." Smith was hoping to be traded, but will now likely spend the rest of the season at the end of the Hornets bench.

Smith almost got traded to the Spurs for Barry. From the Contra Costa Times... J.R. Smith was almost traded to San Antonio in exchange for Brent Barry just before the deadline, but it was nixed at the last minute. The Spurs even told Barry to not bother showing up for a team flight, but the two teams changed their mind shortly afterwards. Now, Smith is stuck at the end of the Hornets bench and has a spoiling relationship with coach Byron Scott. "I tell all our players what they need to do to improve," Scott said. "I have an open-door policy. There hasn't been one time that J.R. has come into my office and talked to me."
