From the Townsville Bulletin...
SOUTH Dragons star Joe Ingles will showcase his talents for National Basketball Association teams and scouts during the National Basketball League off-season.
The unbackable favourite to win the NBL Rookie of the Year award, Ingles has been scouted by NBA teams this season and is certainly on the radar to be a draft candidate in two or three years.
Ingles, 19, will meanwhile work out with San Antonio Spurs and possibly attend some pre-draft camps in the US as part of a two-fold process that raises his profile with NBA scouts and helps him find out more about his game.
"I'm definitely going to San Antonio for about a week," Ingles said.
"I'll do a few trainings. That's the main thing.
"I think I've got an invitation for a Reebok camp, but that just depends on dates, and there's a couple of little camps we're waiting for dates on to see if it fits in while I'm there."
Dragons player-coach Shane Heal will accompany Ingles to San Antonio, where he played six games for the Spurs during the 2004 NBA season, and will no doubt put a strong case for the left-handed swingman.
Not that Ingles is looking to make an immediate jump to the NBA.
He still has three years of draft eligibility, and he is happy to return for a second season with the Dragons, work on his game, then assess his position in regards to the NBA.
"I'll go over and do some stuff then come back and maybe give it a crack maybe the next year," he said.
