For reals. I called him out. Here's what the author wrote:
Friend, why do you feel it so imperative to identify yourself as a "black man," as if this automatically gives you some automatic claim to absolute truth. You say that this is one of the saddest writeups ever on HP AND think that 24 is best show on TV. Now, those two statements seem highly consistent and I thank you for sharing them.
But you do a disservice to Black people when you suggest yourself incapable of holding complex thoughts, or of appreciating irony and satire, or understanding implicit bias and how it is triggered subconsciously by certain imagery in this country (upon which gobs of research has been conducted) etc. In the future, please stick to stating your bias, but please do not identify yourself as being Black. You're unwittingly spreading the stereotype of "intellectual inferiority."
And I wrote:
LOL Ok, whatever you say. Since you're the one who made 24 an issue about race, and since the readers can't see the way I look, like they can with you, myself, and the person above knew it was important to state our race so others can read different points of view, like some of the other commenters on your essay who stated they were white. And your saying I'm "unwittingly spreading the stereotype of intellectual inferiority"? You're the one who made 24 an issue about race without doing your research. I think that's the definition of "intellectual inferiority" if you ask me. Call me stupid, but because I see people of different races doing things on television, I don't assume that all people are like that. I guess my mind is wired differently and I know when I'm watching a TV show, and what real life is. And I'm sure I didn't spread the notion that suggests myself and black people are "incapable of holding complex thoughts", since I probably wrote more in these comments then you did in your piece, and I'm a someone who actually watch the show since season one, so probably have more credibility to have a better opinion on that matter.
