League sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that the Mavericks have agreed to send Antawn Jamison, the newly minted Sixth Man of the Year, to Washington for Thursday's No. 5 overall pick, as well as veterans Jerry Stackhouse and one-time Maverick Christian Laettner.
I think Dallas won out on this deal. Jamison is a solid player, but with his lack of defense, I don't know that he's worth his large contract. Laettner has an expiring contract, something the Mavs desparately need and Stackhouse has a reasonable contract and can still put up solid numbers when healthy. Plus, you get the 5 pick, it's considered a weak draft, but you could still get a potential star. Of course, the trade hasn't gone through yet and these could just be pieces for other trades.

I read that they were loading up on expiring contracts for the run at Shaq. Stackhouse equals Jamisons production more or less (but not his potential) and is a better defender and is cheaper.
But with Walker and Laetner's expiring contracts, that gets them ~ 15% of Shaq's salary, and a pick to throw in.
I expect old moneybags to move on Shaq with both barrels, I just wonder if it will cost him Nowitzki, Nash, or Finley.
Walker was a bad fit anyway, for the second half.

I dont think this was really a bad deal for the Wiz, though, because Stack and Hughes are both 2s. They needed a good 3.
And they arent happy with Stack or Laenter.
But throwing in the pick, I think, was the kicker to make it a more lopsided deal.
