100 mil for 5 years is a big drop from what the Lakers wanted to offer which was 60 mil for two years so now he gets 20 mil a year instead of 30 mil, what a retard, and with the Lakers he wanted 40 mil a year. i guarantee Shaq will sit out at least 20 games the next 3 seasons, each season, becuase he is guaranteed that money and is lazy

I don't see how it's retarded that he took $100mil over $60mil...I think that's pretty self-explanatory.

100 mil over 5 years or 60 over 2 years and most likely another 60 over 2 years after that so thats 120 mil over 4 years

100 mil over 5 years is great for him for 2 reasons.
#1. Thats a GUARANTEED contract for 5 whole years so even if he blows a knee or two he'll still get paid that.
#2. He doesnt deserve it
That whole Shaq for MVP thing was ridiculous last year, if anyone should've been MVP besides Nash, it was Dwyane Wade, Wade was the best player on the Heat last year, not Shaq, Shaq had his games, but overall, he just had an average season compared to his others.
Plus, now with this new contract, he's in a Heat uni for a long time, making tons of money and even if he had accepted that 60 mil for 2 year offer from the Lakers, thats not a long guarantee, cuz if he has a career threatening injury during those 2 years he's looking at a major contract cut.

Shaq doesn't deserve it?
You can't say if he has a career threatening injury is the reason why. Hell, if LeBron has a career threatening injury, is he not worth paying the big bucks too?
Dwayne was the best player for the Heat last year. But the most important player last year was Shaq. He makes everyone around him better just by stepping on the court and not even scoring one point. When Wade was hurt in last years playoffs, I think if they had a 100% healthy Shaq, they would have been alright.
Jazz, you are saying all that because you are a Lakers fan, and well.........that explains it.
Spurs, you are saying all that because his name is not Tim Duncan, and he's not a Spur. If the Spurs signed Shaq to a deal like that, you would be thrilled.

look at what happened the first 3 years with the Lakers after Shaq got that huge contract, he did nothing, let's see 51 games, 60, 49 games, In 2000, Shaq needs a new contract so 99-00 season, he plays 79 games and they win a championship, games played steadily decline again after that to 74, to 67, and 67, he's just lazy

If the Spurs signed Shaq to a deal like that, you would be thrilled. First off, no I wouldnt, I hate Shaq because of his ability to get away with whatever he wants and just look at his new contract, he's greedy and a cap room hog for other teams. 2nd off, a Shaq vs. LeBron comparison for a career threatening injury is a horrible example. If Shaq got one, teams would probably not pay as much because Shaq's POTENTIAL is not at all high anymore, and that injury (if it happened) could be the end of Shaq's career, plus, he's what, 32? 32 years old so he's due for an injury at some point, at the weight he is at and his size his body will get banged up a lot more with age. And that whole, "he makes his team better" is such an overused argument. What does Shaq do to make his teammates better, pass out of double teams and....and....that's it, that's all he does to "make them better", maybe make them look better but not make them better. I believe even without Shaq Dwyane would've had the same season (if not better) season that he did last year, and look at the numbers, 23/10, seems good but when you compare that to the 27/11, 28/12 he was putting up 2-3 years ago, he did not deserve the MVP at all, even being a runner up to Nash is still pretty stupid, because if anyone on that Heat team deserved to be a runner up to Nash, it was Wade.

Career threatening is career threatening.
So if the Heat go and get the Jwill, and Posey trade done. Sign A. Walker. And whatever else Pat Riley has planned, and win the next to championships or so, its not worth it?
I like it.

Spurs you seem to be ignoring how much better the Heat were this season.

Good point Dan.
Shaq is getting old and likely wont play 5 years.
But he took the Heat to a legit playoff threat. Its the only card that the Heat have to play.
Wade, alone, does not the playoffs make.

Wade alone, the Heat still made the playoffs and the 2nd round 2 years ago, the Heat made it to Conference finals by playing the two worst team in the playoffs, Nets, and Wizards, whom anyone could have beaten

They played the 2 worst teams because they earned that road in the playoffs by dominating in the regular season.

I hate shaq with a passion - but he is obviously the most dominate player that I've seen in my lifetime other than Jordan. If you can't see that then you don't know squat about basketball.
Heat without shaq = barely getting to the 2nd round
Heat with shaq = championship contendor.
The heat probably would have won it if it weren't for injuries. Both Shaq and Wade were hurt in the series against the pistons, and they still took it to seven games.

The heat wouldnt make the second round without Shaq------ as of now
but if the 2 trades weve been hearing about go down they will be really good
and oh yeah, they still have shaq
i cant see how spurs how can possibly complain about the signing
