Well John, i find it hard to believe when you think MY credibility takes a hit, when i say Magloire is a top 5 center, yet you seem to think O'neal, Okafor, and Bosh are all power forwards.

While I do love people putting words in my mouth, I never said any of those three were exclusively centers or power forwards. They play both for their NBA teams, so I automatically consider them as both.

Can we agree that they're all basketball players?

How about a Magloire/Smith/Simmons/Redd/Ford with Maurice Will, Gadz, Bogut, and Charlie Bell is a nice team. Because nothing else in this thread is even remotely on topic.

Weren't Skones and I just talking about Magloire being a top 5 center?
Oh wait...maybe Magloire wasn't involved in this trade. I'll have to go check...

Isn't he canadadadadadian? Never been to found of the Maple Leaved Brotha's. Magloire is great when not injured, but he has to be...not injured...about being a top 5 Center though, not really sure. Lets see.....theres Big Ben and Shaq, really the only two who jump out at ya. There's Amare, but he's not always a center but he played it last season so he gets the benefit of the doubt. Then of course Brad Miller. Yao rounds out the top 5. People call him overrated, but thats just because he isn't god. Ask anyone else in the NBA do they want a 7'5" C who can score and shoot the ball. He changes shots in the lane, just by putting his hands up. So I don't see were Magloire fits. If you take out Amare its hard to argue he's better than big Z

Is that what matters for you to being a C? Why doesn't fratelo talk about Pau as the C and Wright has the PF then? i seldom here coachs label players into postions.... most dont wouldnt consider battier a PF either but hes down on the block being guarded by the other teams PF and then he follows him down to the other end and defends him. teams now can run their sets to either side of the court because they have WING players (SG/SF) and low post players (PF/C). ok SHAQ is a center... yao is a center... besides that none are CENTERS they are low post players (PF/C) ... and if mags is that damn good why did more teams not go after him?

You honestly think the bucks are the only team that went after Mags? Give me a break. Brad Miller IS a center, Jamal Magloire, IS a center.
Jayborne, I do take out Amare, cuz I will always see him as a powerforward. I would be willing to argue that Magloire is better than Z however.

I doubt players don't know if they are supposed to be the 4 or the 5. I've never seen a coach work but I'm sure that he has labels for the positions (like the 4 does that and the 5 goes here). So players know what position they are playing. They don't just say, I play downlow, not sure if I'm a 5 or a 4.
I don't think the defensive side is as important. Sometimes we saw Garnett guarding the PG and that doesn't make him a PG. You just tend to put your best defender in the best offensive weapon as long as he can matchup. There's also the switches. A screen can cause the PG to guard the center or the other way around but that's off course different. I would say a player plays the position the coach has set for him on the offense.
Oh and I don't think Mags is a top 5 center although close due to the lack of true centers. I was just debating who we can label as center since that's seems like an interesting doubt. Is JO a center for ex?

Only reason I can't put Magloire up there is because he really only had 1 great season

During the preseason he averaged 10.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, all the while shooting 60.5 percent from the field. I know its just preseason, but damn, when you do that in ONLY 24 minutes a night?
