According to ESPN, the Knicks are making a strong push to land Steve Francis before the Feb. 23 deadline.
New York is hoping that the dangerous backcourt of Stephon Marbury and Francis could salvage their dreadful season. New York is offering Penny Hardaway, Jamal Crawford and either Trevor Ariza, David Lee or Nate Robinson in exchange for Francis and Kelvin Cato, whose $8.64 million salary comes off the cap at the end of the season. Minnsota and Denver are also interested in Stevie Franchise.

ESPN.com reports, citing anonymous NBA sources, that the Magic are close to acquiring Darko Milicic and Carlos Arroyo for Kelvin Cato and a first-round draft pick.
It sounds like the Pistons have finally conceded that taking Milicic No. 2 overall, ahead of Chris Bosh, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade was a mistake. Regardless, they still have the best record in the game so it only really affected their long-term future. Milicic has scored just 152 points in two and a half seasons.

From the Charlotte Observer...
Melvin Ely expressed how happy he was in Charlotte and how much he can't wait until the trade deadline passes so he can sleep again.
"I just know after being in the freezer for so long, I don't want to go. It scares me to think about going someplace else and not knowing what my role would be," Ely said. "As soon as that deadline passes, I can sleep at night." With Emeka Okafor, Gerald Wallace and Sean May sidelined now, the team definitely has a regular role for Ely, but he becomes a free agent after the season so a trade is a possibility.

From the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.........
Reggie Evans, who played nine minutes and picked up a technical foul last night, believes he is the next Sonic to be traded.
Evans was having his best statistical season with coach Bob Weiss early in the season, but doesn't have much of a role with new coach Bob Hill. Even Rashard Lewis recently said that he wouldn't be surprised if he or Ray Allen was dealt before the Feb. 23 deadline.

From the New York Post..........
When asked if Steve Francis will be headed to the Knicks in a trade deadline deal, Orlando assistant GM Otis Smith told said "It's too early for me to say. We're still in the process."
The two teams have not made any headway on the deal the past week and the deal that sent Kelvin Cato and his expiring $8.7 million deal to Detroit might have put a wrench in a possible move between the two teams. "We're no closer to getting Francis than we were 10 days ago," said one Knicks official.

From the Oklahoman.........
Upset with the Blazers' current situation, Ruben Patterson basically requested to traded earlier this week.
"The team needs to make a deal," Patterson said. "There are a lot of guys who are unhappy here. You know, it’s just time to make some moves. I think I’m going to shut up now." The veteran doesn't fit in with the Blazers long-term plans as they're in the midst of a youth movement, so he could find himself in a new uniform within the next week.

From Newsday......
The Knicks continue to be interested in Theo Ratliff and Darius Miles in possible trade before the Feb. 23 deadline.
The rumors surrounding Orlando's Steve Francis and Denver's Kenyon Martin seem to be fading recently. Ratliff is 32 and will make $23.22 million the next two seasons. An overpaid, underproducing player seems to be exactly what GM Isiah Thomas targets. Anferne Hardaway and his expiring $15.8 million contract could be part of the package.

From the Detroit Free Press....
Kelvin Cato (foot) won't be waived immediately by the Pistons, though he might be used as trade bait.
He is expected to report to the team Monday, when the Pistons will give him a medical evaluation. The Pistons might use him and his expiring $8.6-million contract to get another point guard before the NBA's trade deadline, which is Thursday.

From the Charlotte Observer...
Bobcats insider Rick Bonnell feels that Charlotte will not trade Brevin Knight before the Feb. 23 trade deadline.
Knight has been rumored in several deals lately, but the combination of the Bobcats backcourt situation, Knight's contract next season and the market looking for a 30-year old 180-pound veteran point guard, it's likely he'll stay with the Bobcats at least the remainder of this season.
