Finally got to take in a Grizz game in person since the Lee/Johnson acquisitions. Conley was out after the ankle sprain, but Calathes came on in and had the best game of his career. Shit was insane.
If you haven't been to a Grizz game (I know we have quite a few Memphians on here, but plenty that aren't), well the Forum LOVES them some white guys. I mean, the South is the South, and there are all kinds of racial topics to discuss, but the Forum (fans of all races) LOVE LOVE LOVE white guys. The list is LONG of beloved white guys. Jake Tsakalidis, Mike MIller (he was actually good), Brian Cardinal, we even tried to like Darko. Anywho, Calathes has been catching a lot of heat this year b/c at the beginning of the year he was GARBAGE. I mean, Keyon Dooling in the playoffs level garbage. And he actually started out the game Saturday in garbage mode. He settled down though and went 4 of 5 from 3pt for I think 22 points. And at the end of the game the fans were yelling at Zbo to miss FT's so that Calathes could finish as high scorer. (Zbo did not miss FTs)
Anywho, that was a nice game for Calathes and hopefully will give him a boost of confidence to be a good backup when Conley gets back, b/c we have no one else. Literally. After Calathes went out we tried to let Jamaal Franklin and that shit was funny. So eventually we had Tayshaun Prince and Mike Miller handling the ball.
Courtney Lee is great, I am not sure if he made a 3 that night, but just the spacing he creates is so different that Tony Allen. James Johnson is a freak. He will be a great asset come playoff time for defensive purposes. He is prone to foul, which might not be good when you got shit calls going on against players like Harden and Durant, but he will be up to the task. He has a bit of the Tony Allen "trick or treat" to him, but I haven't seen him miss a wide open layup yet, so there is that....
Also, Marc Gasol is still the best Center in the game. I really hope we draw the Rockets in the playoffs just so that the national media would be forced to admit that he is quite a deal better than Dwight Howard.

For the first time since around the first game of the season, the Rockets now finally have their top 7 rotational players all back healthy and while being an unhealthy squad they are tied with the Clippers for the 4th seed. I know people like to bash Houston whenever they play on national tv (because they usually just play like shit) but this is pretty impressive on both the team's and McHale's part. Now let's see if we can just stay healthy the rest of the way.
I'm not getting the feeling Morey will make a significant trade but I'm expecting that the front office will try to add a good shooter off the bench like Mike Dunleavy.

Grizz starters have played 169 minutes together the entire fucking season. Somehow only 2 games out of 8th seed. I should note we would currently be 3rd seed in East. Yet out of playoffs in West. Da fuq???

According to the Rockets insider on Clutchfans (came through big during the Dwightmare. Definitely legit), the Rockets are pursuing Rajon Rondo and are willing to let Parsons go in a potential deal and that Boston is getting "giddy".
The asking price is apparently higher than what we've been led to believe, Ainge wanted McLemore/Thomas/2 firsts from the Kings. LA also in the mix.

I heard All Star Weekend sucked.

didn't watch all of all-star weekened, but the 3pt and dunk were absolute garbage with some of the worst changes ever. For the 3pt they made one whole rack the money ball and let the player choose which. The point of the 3pt contest is to see who the best 3pt shooter is (at least for the event) not to see who's lucky enough to make the most money balls. The fact that you can win while making less shots is fucking retarded. The same is true for the original format with one money ball at the end of the rack, but at least that was only one per rack and added a bit of drama. Having a whole rack is stupid. And the dunk contest was the worst idea since the wheel one. The first round team dunks was horrible and I was honestly confused as to who did what dunk. And then the face off round was crap. The end was anticlimatic. John Wall has a great dunk and then we find out that's the end of the event. There was zero drama. Zero anticipation. Nothing. Some shit happened and then it was over and you're like that's it? What the fuck?

SA is first out West, on a ten game winning streak.
The West is loaded but I like their chances again this year. Namely their bench is vastly improved from last year (Patty Mills, Marco Belinelli), and their starters (Green, Leonard, Splitter) who struggled to begin the year, are now finding their groove.

When I posted on January 23rd, the 76ers were bad, yet still somewhat entertaining and I cared. Now they have really gone out of their way to tank the season to such a point that it would not be safe for their front office or head coach to be anywhere near me.
There is still no question that the 76ers have assembled the worst team in NBA history - the only question is it the 2013-14 76ers or the 1972-73 76ers.
The 76ers & Wiggins - meant for each other.

I'll gladly take Wiggins...76ers doing what's necessary.

I'll gladly take Wiggins...76ers doing what's necessary. If by "necessary", you mean piss off a decent chunk (probably 20% or so, by various estimates) of their fanbase, then yeah, that's necessary. Luckily sports isn't about the fans' dollars anymore, it's all about TV rights, merchandise sales, and corporate dollars. It's at the point where not only is it not worth my time to watch - I don't even listen to them on radio while doing other things.

All I care about is seeing them lose right now. Next year when they get a Wiggins/Parker/Embiid paired with a guy like potentially Gordon...then you'll be appreciate this tank-a-thon season in a few years. This is the first time I've truly loved what the 76ers are doing. When they traded Jrue Holiday...I loved it. Fast forward 8 months, and I love the move even more.

How many of us are out here? I won't EVER appreciate the tank-a-thon season. I might appreciate the players that came with it, but to appreciate the season itself, not a chance. You clearly aren't old enough to remember the prior good teams, or even the good decisions they made along the way. This has basically no chance of being in the top 3 moves of my lifetime for the 76ers. #1: Dr. J for cash #2: Acquiring Moses #3 is either drafting Barkley or Iverson - probably Iverson, even though I hate Georgetown. He was clearly a baller.

As a Grizz fan, we saw similar moves made after making the playoffs (and being swept) three years in a row, we hit the tank mode for about 3 or 4 seasons there that were just awful. I mean, weeknight games that had probably 2k people there, no lie. I had season tickets one of those seasons that I shared with a guy from Memphis and he basically just gave me all the tickets the second half of the season, he just gave up. Luckily Memphis is a pretty basketball savy town, as is Philly no doubt, so if you start winning again there is no doubt the fans will return. But I mean, places like Sacramento and New Orleans...not sure how thats ever gonna get better.
