You know I love home invasion movies. Have you seen Hush, Don't Breathe, and Funny Games Hush and Don't Breathe, yes, but not Funny Games. Hush is great, really enjoyed the use of sound and the spin that put on the ordeal. Always like when movies like that right smart characters and watch them work the problem and I thought that did it really well. My favorite movie in regards to "work the problem" type movies is You're Next, which is just a fun time overall. The morons in Don't Breathe though are morons. Less said about the sequel the better too.

I haven't seen the original Austrian version of Funny Games, which I've heard is the superior version, like most originals, but the American remake (with Naomi Watts and Tim Roth) is good depending on the type of movies you watch. It's definitely not for everyone. If you enjoy dark indie psychological movies that can be uncomfortable/disturbing to watch, then I'd recommend checking it out. I haven't seen it in years, and haven't really watched a lot of dark, horror, etc movies in years, but when I was into the genre, Funny Games left an impression. I forgot about You're Next. Good movie too. Also liked The Guest.

You know I love home invasion movies. I love creature features. I also love alien invasion movies. Put them all together and what do you get? Apparently No One Will Save You(2023) is the answer. Movie just came out today, its a Foxx Searchlight picture that Disney decided to dump on Hulu. Anyone, again its basically an alien invasion movie that we see through the lens of a woman and the Aliens break into her house. It really turns into a creature feature with a few alien designs that I thoroughly enjoyed. Its a slower paced movie with very little spoken dialogue and carried in some scenes almost entirely by sound. Main actress does a great job, never seen her before. Score is great, atmosphere is great, and realistically there is 1 scene with humans in besides her in this movie so if her performance is shit it would have ruined the whole thing. Undecided on the ending. Very unique movie, would love to have someone here watch it and tell me what you think because its a really unique movie that I think will end up with some pretty mixed opinions, especially because of the ending. For me though, its a solid 7.5/10. Watched it tonight. She was in Booksmart too, thought she did a great job in this. 3rd act was….weird, but I will give it props for trying something out there, even if they didn’t quite land it for everyone watching. I find the ending kind of nice.

Yeah, I was really into it for the first 2/3 of the movie and the last act really caught me off guard. Don't hate some of the ideas I just didn't think it was executed all that well.

Enjoyed the new Spiderverse movie, although kinda sucked it abruptly ended without any resolution. Will be great when the next one comes out and you can watch back to back, but not so much right now where it just ends, and now you have to wait to see what happens. Fun seeing the 2099 Spiderman. I never read the comic, but remember it coming out when I was a kid. Think I might have the 1st issue in storage, don't remember.

Blue Beetle was ok. Probably would have liked it more when I was younger, but it's still worth a watch. Think not having a true villain threat hurt it a little. Saw some comments comparing it to Iron Man/Spiderman, and would agree. Susan Sarandon is like a less menacing Jeff Bridges (Iron Man). Has potential though, and would be down to see a sequel. Curious to see what they do with him. Read a little online, and looks like Reyes Beetle is actually a powerhouse that can hold his own against Superman (the scarab can produce kryptonite), and he's beat some of the Green Lanterns (The aliens that made the scarab are lantern enemies). Also saw Peacemaker was one of his mentors in the comics, so curious if James Gunn plays into that.

Watch the "All the Light We Cannot See" miniseries. Mainly b/c Jonas from Dark is in it. Dark is so, so good.
'Light' is...fine. Entertaining and only 4 short episodes. Hugh Laurie as the Professor was really good. I saw that it got some pretty bad reviews, but I didn't find it that bad.
Finally got around to watching "A Walk in the Woods" with Redford and Nolte. As someone who is a regular backpacker it was pretty funny from that aspect, but mostly b/c of what it got 'wrong' but I think overall it was a funny look at thru hikers, and I have met my share of dudes like this out on the AT, and hell, maybe one day I will be one of them!

The Creator(2023) Ugh this one is really disappointing. First of all, this is not a bad movie. I like it a good bit, but when I saw the trailer I really thought we were in for a true classic science fiction movie and this isn't that. Its a fucking gorgeous movie with some tremendous sound design. The AI in the movie are well designed and there is a ton of thought about how world works. Gareth Edwards in my opinion is an expert world builder and I'd really have loved to spend more time in this world because I think hes crafted a world with a lot of stories to tell. The story chosen to tell here though? Oof. Its predictable with some really rough dialogue in spots with character decisions that don't make any sense. There is a scene where a character suspects an ambush, then brushes it off despite the reasoning being 100% logical, and they gets fucking ambushed. I've liked John David Washington in stuff but holy hell he needs someone super charismatic to bounce off because the dude completely lacks that. He has no chemistry with anyone in the movie and its no spoiler to say this movie rests in the relationship between him and the child AI is the crux of the movie and it not working really holds it back. Its 2 hours+ and it just feels like it needed to be a 3 hour movie. Also makes a choice that makes me think there is some heavy US war crimes allegory coming in and never really knocks that home. A lot of good in this movie mixed with a ton of missed opportunities and its a shame to see.
6.5/10

Really interesting take here; I'm gonna watch it over the Winter Break, so seeing it through your eyes first will make the viewing quite the experience!
