The second episode was better, but how could you not like the birthday song in the first episode? Obviously it's not an intellectual comedy, but it's about people in the same place in their life that I'm at with similar interests to me, so I find it enjoyable. And I also appreciate the occasional legit fantasy stuff they throw out there, because it pisses me off in other comedies where people are playing video games or something but they are holding an old NES controller. Big Bang Theory is good at using legit video game props and lines too.

Everyone here needs to be watching The League on FX. I watched the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th episodes last night and I have to admit - they are hilarious. 2nd episode has been the best so far IMO.

eastbound and down is by far one of the funniest things on tv, love danny mcbride. Funny you should say that, I bought the first season on a good Black Friday deal just to check it out. I don't know, it's okay so far, but Danny McBride is directly channeling any over-the-top sports character that Will Ferrell has ever done - it's fitting Ferrell has a cameo in the show. That said, I really like McBride, some of the stuff is a little to silly for me (Stevie doing anything to be his "partner", let's say), but some of the dialogue is brilliant, and McBride couldn't be better really based on the type of character he's playing. I just have this theory that Will Ferrell thought of the whole thing and wanted to play the lead character and the producers went, "but Will....don't you think you've...you know...played that character a lot already?" Just a thought, haha.

I hear it really picks up around ep 9 or 10 though, so I'll have to wait and see I've been watching it throughout, and I'm still waiting for it to get really good. It's somewhat interesting, but they keep veering off into horror stuff instead of the interesting parts of the story, which is annoying.

Finished watching the first season of "Eastbound and Down". I think overall I generally liked it, but not by an overwhelming margin. I liked the last half of the season more, when they started to humanize his character as well as show his inconsistency when he would launch right back into his old self. If there's one reason to see the show, it's for McBride's (much improvised, I think) performance, as a former baseball star struggling to adjust to life in the suburbs with his brother's family. That said, I predicted a ton of things that happened in the last couple episodes, and it annoyed me that the writing hit some bad spots at times when you got guys like Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, and McBride himself at the helm. Still, I'd probably recommend it if you like the Will Ferrell movies where he glorifies himself for the whole running time - this is your show.
I received the whole series of the show, "The Wire", which is supposed to be an absolute knockout from what I hear. That and "Mad Men" are on my list next.

picked up lost season 5 dvd yesterday. *quasi spoilers ahead.
As far as extras go it has a few, nothing too special. one cool one where they talk about the guy who is in charge of keeping track of the time travel aspects of the show. Thats got to be a daunting task in terms of keeping track of who is where, plus how the sets are supposed to look, etc etc.
A day in the life of richard alpert, in which he reveal he does indeed NOT wear eye liner! Also, shows how they film in studios for any scene when they are inside a building, and then have to drive an hour across the island to shoot on the beach/forrest. having taken a tour of the lost set in Hawaii, i can atest to the fact that this drive would get old if you did it multiple times daily. They were filming the last episode of season 5 when they did it *extreme spoiler alert* when the open the box and Locke falls out. They talked about how they had a very limited crew as to prevent anyone from finding out whats in the box and what the deal with Locke is. interesting to see behind the scenes stuff.
overall, kind of a skimpy DVD set, some bloopers and one episdoe, i think that is all, of commentary. I am guessing when they release the whole thing altogether there will be a lot of extras on there.

Decided to check out a show that originated the year I was born.
I've heard a lot of great things about "Twin Peaks", a supernatural thriller that aired during the late 80's and early 90's. It deals with the murder of a young, sweet teenager in a small town in Washington called Twin Peaks. The case gets the FBI involved quickly (headed by Kyle MacLachlin) since the events surrounding the girl's death are extremely mysterious.
I watched the first season of the show and liked it, didn't love it, but I liked it. MacLachlin's likable character really drives the show. It's very strange, and I can definitely see why it has a cult following who are enamored by it.
I'm currently contemplating whether to watch the second season. I merely "liked" the first season and that was only 8 episodes (you can watch it on CBS.com for free), and my parents both watched the show and have said it really goes off the rails around the halfway point of the second season. I'm just not sure I'd want to watch 22 more episodes of it, as intriguing and riveting as it can be at some points.
Anyone else ever watch this show? Nate?

twin peaks is one of the shows I always meant to watch, but never got around to seeing it.
I just finished the new season of Dexter though. Great last episode. Going to be interesting to see what happens next season.

Going to be interesting to see what happens next season. I liked the first season of "Twin Peaks" but found it to be very overrated personally, it's solid but not extraordinary. I need to get back on track with "Dexter", I watched the season opener of Season 4 and was a fan. John Lithgow was an excellent choice to play the villain. That's probably the next thing I'll be catching up on.

Just finished watching season four of "Dexter".
Pretty stunned, even though I already knew what was coming because *spoilers* flipping through channels and hearing Julie Benz say "Oh yeah I'll still watch the show!" *end spoilers* so that ruined it for me. Still, HOW it happened, wow. It'll be very interesting to see what they do in Season five. Although season four wasn't perfect, it's as close to perfect as I've seen from a TV series. John Lithgow's performance matched Michael C. Hall's yard for yard, both of them have to get Emmy/Golden Globes this coming winter. Great show. Highly recommended.

Good premiere, as expected. Cool to see Acevada from "The Shield" as the guy Jack's helping in the first two episodes. Is it just me or does the blonde chick whose going to marry Freddie Prinze Jr.'s character look like a taller, less attractive version of Brittany Murphy? Weird.... But back to the show. It was a good opener, probably going to be another fun season. It's still my favorite show even though I'm not sure how many more things they can do with it. I'll say they should finish this season, then do one more and finish the series off. With all the "Dexter" talk in this forum, you'll be happy to hear that Michael C. Hall finally won a Golden Globe for his performance. John Lithgow also won an award as well for playing the villain so perfectly. Good/bad news about Hall is that he was wearing a cap last night and it was announced that he has cancer. The good news is that he says its in remission and that its Hodgkins lymphoma - a 90 percent curable kind. They're also going to start filming season five of "Dexter" starting this week too....
